I know how many albums and tracks I had and how many are added so I know how many to expect.
Maybe I just got used to that when using Asset and it became part of my SOP.

I just tried this with Asset and it doesn't seem to report the nmber of tracks and albums while the scan is in progress, only at the end.

Did you look at the web status page of the server?
I am in my office right now and can not guarantee what I am going to say but I believe the following to be true.
Asset goes through several phases while scanning:
counting number of tracks showing updating track xxxxx of yyyyy
counting number of albums
combining artist
and probably one or two other counts.
I will check when I get home tonight.

I was looking at the Asset configuration dialog. How do I view the Asset status web page?

RE: How can I tell when scan is finished?
Hi Simon,
From your last response the difference could be that I am running MinimServer and Asset Server on my QNAP NAS.
The Asset Server web page is from the NAS.
The MinimServer web page I referred to also comes from my NAS.

I went through the whole process again this evening.
1) start the Asset Server web page
2) click "Rescan all"
3) message " Rescanning entire library..."
4) click "Back to main page"
5) I am back on the main Asset Server web page and the following messages are displayed
5.1) "Scanning Library...Counting Audio Tracks"
5.2) "Scanning Library...Track xxxxx of yyyyy"
yyyyy = the number of audio tracks found
xxxxx = the number of tracks that have been scanned
the page automatically updates
the track increments for every 500 tracks
5.3) when track scanning is complete I see this message
"Combining Artists..."
5.4) when this has completed I see this message:
"Library Contains yyyyy Tracks, zzzzz Albums"
xxxxx = the number of tracks
zzzzz = number of albums
Asset Server on my NAS shows the progress of the scan job as described above.

I hope this explanation helps clear up what I see and what I was asking about seeing for MinimServer.

Thanks for your attention,
Chip

RE: How can I tell when scan is finished?
Thanks for the detailed description. I am running Asset on Windows and I don't think the Windows version has this web page. I will install the QNAP version to see how this works.
