How can I tell when scan is finished?
Hello,
How can I tell when MinimServer has completed scanning all files after a rescan?

Would it be possible to add the number of tracks and albums to the status page?

Thanks,
Chip

If you have done a Rescan from the status web page, you can click the 'Refresh status' button. When the status changes from Restarting to Running, the rescan is finished. The status page uses static HTML and can't be updated asynchronously by the server.

If you have done a Rescan from the MinimWatch minim icon, the icon colour changes from yellow to green (transparent on Mac) when the rescan is finished. You can observe the progress of the rescan in real time by clicking 'Show log' and setting the logging level to Verbose.

If I click Refresh Status could the static HTML page then display the number of tracks and albums to the status page?

I think it would be possible and useful for the status page to show the number of audio files (tracks) that have been scanned while a rescan is in progress. It would be difficult to show a meaningful figure for albums because of the way MinimServer combines tracks into albums during the scan. Depending on your property settings and how your albums are tagged and organised into folders, a lot of albums could be started early in the scan but not completed until the very end of the scan.

I think the total numbers at the end of the scan for tracks and albums would be useful.

There is no need for the status page to show these totals after the scan has finished because you can see them from the top-level menu in your control point.

At first I thought you wanted to know how far through the scan you are (for which a track total would be sufficient) but now I am not sure why you want this information.

I think it would be good to know how far, as a percentage, the rescan has progressed, as one number for each separate category, like tracks and finished/partially_finished albums.

Having these numbers appear in the top level menu in the control point seems rather pointless; not something you actually care about at play time.

I don't think this is pointless. The numbers of albums and items are also shown at each stage of browsing and it can be useful to see how many albums and items remain in your current browsing selection.

I don't think it is helpful to have a scanning progress indicator (such as the number of albums) that doesn't show scanning progress accurately.

It isn't possible to show a percentage of either tracks or albums because the total number isn't known until the scan has finished.

I primarily wanted to know the count since I track this when I add new music to my system and it would give me an indication of the progress of the scan.
I know how many albums and tracks I had and how many are added so I know how many to expect.
Maybe I just got used to that when using Asset and it became part of my SOP.

I just tried this with Asset and it doesn't seem to report the nmber of tracks and albums while the scan is in progress, only at the end.
