Minimserver 0.8.3 StartError on Synology

I get one started when trying to activate Minim in DSM, I still get the error that it cant start but it then runs. However, when the NAS shuts down overnight and comes back in the morning, I need to do the same again. No chance to start or refresh from MinimWatch.

Can you access MinimServer from a UPnP control point to browse and play music?

If you start MinimWatch, what do you see in the system tray? Are there any red minim icons?

I get just a greyed out Icon now, until I start MinimServer in DSM. THen it starts scanning (see above) and I can browse and play music. I f I try to start Minimserver again in DSM, then I get an additional red icon. I guess that what happened yesterday, when I tried starting it several times as I always got that messages that Minimserver couldnt start.

If am I understanding this correctly, you are starting MinimServer in DSM (green or transparent icon in MinimWatch) and then starting it again in DSM (red icon in MinimWatch). How do you start MinimServer in DSM again when it is already running? If MinimServer is running, the DSM Package Center is only showing me options to Stop and Uninstall.

It sounds like when the Package Center first starts MinimServer, it does start (is available from MinimWatch and from a UPnP control point) but the Running status isn't updated correctly in the Package Center. Is this what you are seeing?

Thats what it looks like - but then when the NAS goes down and comes back in the morning, I do need to "start" it again in DSM to get MinimServer to be active.

Doing this DSM will still tell me it cant start MinimServer even though it does kick it on.

I guess I'll just turn off the overnight shutdown of the NAS so Minim will just keep running..

Please try logging in via SSH and running this command:

/var/packages/MinimServer/scripts/start-stop-status status ; echo $?

A result of 0 should mean that MinimServer is running and a result of 3 should mean that MinimServer is not running. What result do you get after starting MinimServer for the first time after a reboot?

If the result is 3 even though MinimServer is running, please try doing the following:

1) Run the command: cat /var/run/minimserver.pid

2) Run the command: ps | grep pidnum
with pidnum replaced by the output from step 1

3) Copy and paste the output from step 2 here

I'm under ubuntu but i don't know why, it's impossible for me to launch correctly minimwatch...
Nothing to the ./startd command...
Not a problem, i launch my virtualbox windows 7 machine.
minimwatch under windows installed.
Impossible to connect to the server, icon is grey...
impossible to find the server with a upnp control point as bubbleupnp or my dsl box.
impossible to play music to, naturally.

You shouldn't normally be using startd to launch MinimWatch on Ubuntu. This runs MinimWatch as a daemon background process. Instead, you should use minimwatch/bin/setup to enable MinimWatch desktop integration and then double-click the MinimWatch launch icon on the desktop.

If MinimServer isn't visible anywhere on the network, are you sure it is running? To find out, open the web page http://x.x.x.x:9790 in your browser, where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the machine running MinimServer.

Hi Simon, thanks for all your help.

The status command returns a "3", ie not running altough MinimServer is running at the moment.

The output of the "cat" command and the "ps" command I have attached in a text file. Hope this helps

Thanks for this. You are getting this problem because the /var/run/minimserver.pid file doesn't exist. Please run the following commands and post the output:

ls -l /var
ls -l /var/run
ps
