Exporting LANG sets the character classification unless LC_CTYPE is already set. if LC_CTYPE is already set, its value can be overridden by LC_ALL. Because you had LC_CTYPE already set to POSIX, exporting LANG does not override this setting but exporting LC_CTYPE does. |
