MinimServer Errors
I have encountered a problem with MinimServer and after some investigation i turns out that I needed to reinstall Java 7 on my Synology NAS. Now I am encountering a problem where I cannot reinstall MiniServer as I continually get the message that port 9790 is in use by an application or reserved by the system. I have waited to see if it clears and even rebooted but to no avail. Is there a way around this?

When I went to look at the status of MinimServer via MinimWatch on my computer I noticed it was not running. I exited it and went into Applications and clicked to restart and this time I got the red flag. I looked at properties and noticed that MinimServer was pointing to the incorrect music folder. I have no idea why but I deleted that and found that I could not add another. I went to the Synology desktop and clicked on the MinimServer icon there and this is the error I received:

"Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 10.0.1.7:9790."

Everything else is running fine and then I checked packages and noticed that 0.8.1 24 was available, which i thought I already had. In any case I did the update but the problem persists. Any thoughts?

It sounds like either MinimServer isn't running or the IP address or port number is wrong.

If you were able to do the update (presumably using MinimWatch on another computer), this would mean that MinimServer is running. Do you still see a red minim icon in MinimWatch? If so, this means that MinimServer is running.

Have you used MinimWatch to change the http.port value from 9790 to something else? This could explain why you aren't able to access the MinimServer status page from the Synology desktop. Please check the http.port value on the System tab of the MinimWatch Properties dialog.

If the http.port value is 9790, there might be a problem with the IP address 10.0.1.7. You can verify this by using the "ping" command from the computer that is running MinimWatch.

RE: MinimServer Errors
Simon,, sorry for the confusion I actually edited the post you responded to. As mentioned I had to reinstall Java and as such also reinstall MinimServer. The issue now is that I constantly get the message that port 9790 is in use or reserved when I try to complete the MinimServer install.

See this thread for a solution.

Okay MinimServer is installed. I will go back and install MinimWatch and MinimStreamer and see what happens. Thanks.

RE: MinimServer Errors
Well all seems to work except now when I open PlugPlayer I see a new folder [Untagged} with a bunch of songs in them. This never happened before and I assume I need to go and fix the tags for these songs.

Do these songs have any tags at all? It could be that you need to add some tag names to indexTags or itemTags so that MinimServer will read the tags.

RE: MinimServer Errors
They did originally. I made screen shots of my previous setting so when I reconfigured MinimServer those were the settings I used. In some cases these songs are part of am album where all the other songs are tagged properly. I will have to import the album file into Metadatics and see what the metadata looks like.

RE: MinimServer Errors
Turns out they may have had too many tags. Some of them must have transferred over from JRiver and I just deleted them and rescanned. Still doesn't explain why they worked the first time around and not on the reinstall, but all is well for now.
