n-stream on ipad, naim app.

This is a known issue with n-stream. I suggest you contact Naim to see if they have any plans to change this.

When you say a known issue. Do you mean that n-stream has a set layout and this cant be overridden by Minimserver. Are you aware of any other ipad control points for Naim steamers

I mean that other n-stream users have reported that n-stream forces its own sort order and ignores the sort order sent to it by MinimServer.

I don't have a Naim streamer myself, and I don't know whether other iPad control points are compatible with it. You could try Linn Kinsky to see if that works. Perhaps other Naim users will have some suggestions.

Looks like your right Simon. I tried Kinsky and that works correctly. Had a look and there is a compatibility setting in n-stream that switches between well compatibility modes for different UPnP servers i suppose. Anyway not used it before but changing this setting allows the sort order to arrange as per settings in Minimserver.

Many thanks for your help

Regards Graeme

OK spoke too soon. Just loaded my spare drive into the NAS, which has exactly the same version of DSM and minimserver and it works correctly with n-stream out of compatibility mode. This has really confused me now. How can this be ??

You might need to ask Naim about this. As I understand it, compatibility mode uses the Naim streamer as the UPnP control point, and "non-compatibility" mode uses the n-stream iPad app as the UPnP control point. Does this provide any clues?

Not really as, as i now have my test drive in the NAS with same version of DSM and Minimserver, in fact its set identically to the drive i normally use. Yet with n-stream in its standard mode ie non compatibility mode, the "tagOptions Album.sortTags={AlbumArtist, Album}" is working correctly on the old drive in the NAS but not on my usual raid drives.

If it was a Naim issue id expect the outcome to be the same with either drive in the NAS. Its like there is a configuration difference in the NAS drive

The difference might be that the test drive configuration has different network configuration settings that are preventing MinimServer from communicating with the n-stream UPnP control point running on the IPad over a wireless connection, which could cause n-stream to fall back to compatibility mode automatically.

When using compatibility mode, MinimServer is communicating with the UPnP control point on the Naim streamer over a wired connection.

If UPnP communication is working over a wired connection but not over a wireless connection, this is ususally caused by IGMP snooping not being configured correctly for the wireless LAN.

I think it may be n-stream. The only difference i could come up with was that on the test drive i only had about 40 albums on there to play with. So went back to my raid drives in the NAS and made a new directory and copied some albums in there, directed minimserver to that directory, and guess what, n-stream displays them as Minimserver is configured.

No idea why this may be, but im copying more files into this directory and see what happens. The only difference i can see in n-stream is that with lots of albums, not sure how many yet, you get a alphabet bar appear down the side for quick scrolling. Im thinking at this point, is when n-stream reacts differently. If you follow me
