Content Directory problem on Synology NAS

Hi All

Id thought id have a go and install Minimserver on my Synology 212j NAS, see how it compares to the in built "Media Server".

Anyway ive installed Java 7 embedded and installed Minimserver, all ok. the problem is that when i try to open Minimserver i just get a blank screen. In the log i get

   

I therefore cant add the link for the "content directory". Is there another way to add the link?

Do you mean that you get a blank browser tab when you click the MinimServer icon in the DSM main menu? Which version of DSM are you running?

I'm not sure from where you got this screenshot. Is it from within the Package Center?

You should use MinmimWatch installed on any computer in your LAN to change the various settings of MinimServer, including the content directory.

Yes the attachment is from the log tab of minimserver in the package centre

Im running an old version of DSM as its the only one that supports transcoding of hi-res files, i believe, Ver 3.2 build 1955.
Ill install minimwatch and see if that works

Your posted log in the screenshot looks OK. This is what it will look like when you start MinimServer for the first time (except that it seems that this old version of the Package Center doesn't render newlines correctly).

Since MinimServer 0.8.1 there is a basic web interface which allows you to set the content directory. You should be able to open it by clicking the MinimServer icon in the DSM main menu. Do you see such an icon? However, you are highly recommended to use MinimWatch to get the most out of MinimServer.

Depending on what kind of transcoding you need, you will be very happy with MinimServer. The new MinimStreamer, an additional package for MinimServer, provides quite a lot transcoding options.

So for transcoding flac to wav minimserver caters for this or do i need to install minimstreamer as well ?

You need to install MinimStreamer using MinimWatch. You would then be able to do FLAC->WAV transcoding also with the latest version of DSM.

Will try that. Something odd is happening now. Minimwatch indicated that a new version of minimserver was available buiild 12 i think. I said yes to the install. It said installed correctly, but now when i look on the NAS the only version there is stopped. If i start it minimwatch goes red and i get a second minimwatch icon that goes green. Ive stopped minimserver on the NAS and then right clicked and stopped minimserver on minimwatch, which has turned grey. However music is still playing, but no servers are available from within nstream, im using a naim streamer. Has something gone wrong?

OK deleted everything and started again, and all is working well. Transcoding from flac to wav working well too. many thanks again for the help.
