Turbo Transcoding.
The transcoding I think that would be useful would be
1: Transcoding a DSD file to a PCM file.. so we wouldn't have to use DoP and manually convert DSD files to DoP FLAC files.. Also this would allow us to play DSD files on PCM equipment (without having to run two libraries of files) 2: Transcoding 24/192 PCM files to 16 Bit files…so We could use Sonos to play ALL our files. Including the 24Bit ones. Is either of these options possible? Following on from this, I notice you can now access a music library directly served up on a QNAP NAS *within* the Sonos menu structure! ie When I go to the "select a Music Source" within Sonos, my QNAP appears as a source.. (Mine is called QNAPMusic)..and presto: I can navigate straight into the files structure: Can you see where I am going here!!! If MinimServer appeared as a Source within Sonos and MinimServer could transcode 24bit PCM and DSD files into 16 bit on the fly…well *THAT* would be awesome!!! So I'm confused about all the transcoding options. Is there a summary? |

RE: Turbo Transcoding.
^Further on from the above: the QNAP appears as a Sonos music source directly because it is a Windows Media Server..
Any chance of tricking Sonos by making MinimServer "appear" as a WMS? ![]() (see this thread to understand what I am on about: https://forum.minimserver.com/showthread.php?tid=342 ) |

Some hi-fi makers seem to like this approach? Simon, I think you and "miska", from CA, should "have dinner" some time. You have a solution that could be the perfect "host" for his conversion/transcoding code, that he runs on HQPlayer. He prefers to apply upsampling and digital filters on software, and then have the "treated audio" consumed by a suitable DAC... Only one thing divides you, you work with UPNP/DLNA, he hates it! I can see that the great talents of both would combine perfectly to make the best server and playback system... Is it technically possible to have a place in MinimServer open for these plugins for added functionality... |

This would be technically possible with the next release of MinimServer. The plugin would need to be an executable that takes DSD from its standard input stream and writes PCM to its standard output stream (or vice versa). This is similar to converter programs like ffmpeg and avconv. |

RE: Turbo Transcoding.
Spot on MikeJazz. Simon needs to visit Finland and/or Miska needs a trip to the UK
I've pleaded with Miska to make his player DLNA compatible.. alas to no avail.. but I've tried.. Meanwhile until common sense avails I'll switch to JRiver for a while…
