startupScan - setting "full"
Hello Simon,

I observed a behavior in the startupScan property that I don't understand: when I set it to "full" in order to have a full rescan of my files, MinimServer only runs a full rescan once. After that, the property is reset to "true".

Is that an intentional feature or a bug? As I tend to modify the tagging quite regularly in minimal ways (changing ratings and such), those minimal changes usually aren't detected when doing a normal rescan.

If this is a feature, it would be nice to have an additional setting like "full rescan once per month" or something like that.

Best regards
Lakorus

It’s a feature and on my side any change to tags is retrieved when rescanning in “true” mode.
Which control point are you using? Maybe you need to refresh/update the library in your control point

RE: startupScan - setting "full"
The current approach was introduced some years ago because some users were leaving 'full' enabled permanently after using it once and not realising it was making every rescan much slower.

With startupScan set to 'true', MinimServer rescans each file whose modification date or file size has changed. If you are not seeing this, it is likely that you have configured your tagging program to not change the modification date when updating the file.

You could use the mscript command (see this page) to run a script that sets the startupScan property to 'full' and then does a rescan. You could schedule this script to run whenever you wish: once a month, every night, etc.

RE: startupScan - setting "full"
Thank you both! I'm using BubbleUPNP and I tried a rescan, but it only triggers the rescan-mode that is specified in MinimServer.

And yes, the tagging programs I am using are set to not altering the filedate, because I quite like knowing the date when the file was created - although this is useless knowledge of course. Anyway, I understand the logic of how the setting works as it does and certainly can live with it, I was just wondering. I will take a look into mscript one day or another. Until then I will use MinimWatch every now and then to initiate a full scan.

Best regards
Lakorus

I create a DateAdded tag so that I can retain this type of information - and index it - without causing all these types of problem downstream e.g. backups.
Obviously you could just keep it in a text file, but I find it another interesting way to browse my collection.
