RE: The control app thread
Since a few days I am using the app JPLAY iOS on my iPad. It works pretty well in my setup, where MinimServer runs on my Mac Mini and streams to a Raspberry Pi 4B with RopieeeXL.

It can be combined with Qobuz/Tidal and the UI looks quite pretty. A bit expensive, though, with an annual subscription fee. See also

RE: The control app thread
Thanks for posting the linked thread. It makes interesting reading. This app does seem expensive at $49.99 per year!

RE: The control app thread
Lumin control app - still my favourite - has had an interesting upgrade very recently.
As well as apparently fixing some bugs which folk have been experiencing, to do with buttons not working as expected, they have introduced another feature.

This is the ability to move forwards and backwards between screens you have been examining like forward and back arrows on a web browser.

And it is growing on me - particularly when you are looking for versions of a particular song or compiling a play list. Like most things on Lumin, it requires a bit of effort getting to know it, but worth the effort IMHO.

Yes, I think, too, this is too much. This is the reason why I did not try JPlay yet. A few years back you did pay $4,99 for an app for the lifetime (I always asked myself how development can be financed by such low prices). If it was $50 until the next major update and the next major update would be offered with a fair update price, it would be fine for me. But $50 here, $10 there (e.g. for upnp servers Wink ), and so on per year, this sums up. This is why I do not like subsription software licenses. I prefer to pay once and am finished with this.

Also I do not understand how JPlay is working. They say the app increases sound quality. How does this work? Is the music stream routed over the app that does transcoding or other processing? This would mean that the music data would flow twice over wifi. I do not like this idea.

RE: The control app thread
Just FYI - the Linn app until now only available on iOS has been early released on Android. Have been using for a couple of weeks and seems pretty stable.
So now using Lumin and Linn on Android

RE: The control app thread
I am a little bit confused. I searched for the linn app because I thought the new one might be the one with the white icon (from iOS). But I only find the app with the black icon. I already had this installed. But the found app offered me an "install" button anyway. Now I have two black linn apps that look the same. I can open both apps in the play store, but in a browser only the second URL das work:

The app that I had installed:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...linn.kazoo

The new app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...inn.kazoo2

Did linn loose their password for the first account and opened up a second one?

I agree, 50$ a year is too much. But I was curious.

I just combined MinimServer with GentooPlayer running MPD/UmpdCli on my Raspberry Pi 4. Wonderful sound!

From the ios app description it states:
Quote:Dramatically better sound quality thanks to minimizing network traffic

And they reiterate that in this post here:
They say it sounds better than BubbleUPnP because the maximum polling for Bubble is 10 seconds whereas JPLAY can go up to 12000!
They also point to the local index helping with reduced network traffic, blah, blah, blah ;-)
I'm kinda surprised they've offered these reasons as it's something anyone can emulate/test (put your phone/tablet in airplane mode once a track has been started).

I think it's one of those products where you can't doubt what's being told, otherwise you won't "hear" the improvements.

JPlay is basically a playback software and a remote app for streamers (just citing the developer https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic...for-ios/).

I myself wouldn’t understand at all how JPlay should improve the sound, too many apps claim to magically improve the sound!

It is expensive, agreed, perhaps too expensive, but nonetheless I like it. It has a ,Roon-like‘ user interface. One can see that a lot of software development went into it (at least I think).

It comes with a trial period of 14 days, so everyone can judge if it is worthwhile the 50$. For me, JPlay works flawlessly, in contrast to the terrible problems I had with Linn and the likes.
