contentDir setting

Hello,

Appologies if this has been asked before. I've browsed the forum but could not find an aswer to my particular issue.

I installed minimserver 2 (free trial) on my mac mini. My library is located on a local Synology NAS. For the life of me I cannot enter the network path for my music library.

My Synology NAS is called DS4xx on the network.
IP address for the NAS is xxx.xxx.x.xxx
The music is stored on a folder called "music":

I tried all of the bellow options and nothing worked:

/DS4xx/music
smb://DS4xx/music
/xxx.xxx.x.xxx/music
smb://xxx.xxx.x.xxx/music
/DS4xx/volume1/music
/volume1/music
\\DS4xx\music

Please advice on what I'm doing wrong.

See steps 1 and 2 of the tutorial on this page for details of how to find the correct path. The File Station screens look a bit different now but they work in exactly the same way.

Hi Simon,

I tried the suggested steps but it's not working. My Synology NAS shows exactly the same path as your tutorial "/volume1/music" but when I enter it I get an error message:
Content directory error: /volume1/music

Where exactly are you entering this value? Can you post a screenshot showing the error message?

I think the remote path (/volume1/music) of the Synology needs to be mounted on the mac mini and then the local mount path put into the MinimServer contentDir.

this is the path from my macmini to the NAS (attached). but when I enter these details to the minimsever content directory, i get "Content directory path isn't absolute..." (attached)

The path should be /Volumes/music

When I say it needs to be mounted locally first, I mean so that the remote storage is visible and browseable just like any other local path when using your file browser.
On Linux you'd use the 'mount' command, on Windows 'net use' but I know nothing about mac so maybe someone else can help.

I may be incorrect as I've only ever had MinimServer installed on the device where the storage is mounted locally, but the user guide states:
"Each content directory must be specified as a fully qualified absolute path in the file system of the device running MinimServer."

Actually I've just tried successfully with \\server_ip\share and that worked on windows (to a smb share), so an equivalent should work on the mac e.g. \\server_ip\volume1\music?

@simoncn will be along shortly to resolve it for you, I think he just missed the fact that you were running MinimServer on a mac mini.
