Yamaha CRX-N560D slow to find MinimServer
I am using MinimServer on a Synology DS215j Nas - to get the better quality BBC radio streams (and some other stations) to both the Yamaha and a Roberts Radio Stream 93i.

Within seconds of 'waking' the Roberts Radio it will find both the Synology and the MinimServer - no matter how long it is since anything has been played from the Nas - even when its been long enough for the Nas to go into Standby/Powersave mode.

To get the Yamaha to find the Synology, I had to reset the SSDP Advertisement interval (seconds) to 5, from the default setting (which was 920 I think).

Once this was done, even if both the Yamaha has been powered off, and the Nas has gone into Standby/Powersave mode, the Yamaha will find the Synology within 10 seconds or so.

However, the MinimServer won't appear - it can take 4 to 5 minutes before it appears as an option to select in the Yamaha Streamer menu.

On checking the Nas - MinimServer is running.

Is there a setting somewhere in MinimServer which does the equivalent or similar to the SSDP Advertisement interval for the Synology - I assume this is the Nas "telling" the world its alive and kicking, even when in a sleep mode?

Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to get the option the select the MinimServer from within the Yamaha more quickly.

The Roberts Radio finds both immediately, even when the SSDP Advertisement interval was at the default of 920.

Thanks, Steve

This problem is caused by something in your network that is preventing M-SEARCH multicast discovery messages from working properly. By setting the SSDP discovery interval for the Synology media server to 5, you are working around this network problem by "flooding" the network with SSDP "alive" messages from the Synology media server every 5 seconds.

MinimServer uses the ohNet UPnP stack for SSDP discovery. ohNet doesn't provide any way to change its SSDP advertisement time, so the only way to get this working correctly with MinimServer would be to fix the network problem.

Multicast discovery problems are often caused by issues with IGMP snooping. Does your router have a setting to disable IGMP snooping? If so, try setting this to disabled to see if this improves matters.

RE: Yamaha CRX-N560D slow to find MinimServer
Hi Simon,

Thanks for the reply.

I use a BT Hub 5 and it looks like there is no way of disabling IGMP snooping - most of the information on the net seems to say it's enabled by default with no way to disable it.

I've increased the time interval setting for the SSDP on the Synology and the Yamaha does not discover the Nas until the "advertisement" has been sent out (I timed it all using a stopwatch on the iPhone - sad but true, and much to my wife's amusement) - unlike the Roberts which seems to find it within seconds of booting up/switching on.

Anyway, increasing the SSDP on the Synology does seem to result in the MinimServer getting found more quickly, so at the moment I've settled on 120 seconds - meaning a maximum of two minutes wait for the Yamaha before I can stream music or radio - sufficient time to put the kettle on and make a cuppa....

Many thanks for all your help - it's good to share these things with others as somewhere, sometime someone else will be be having the same issues.

RE: Yamaha CRX-N560D slow to find MinimServer
Quick update.

I've got around the problem by disabling 'eco-standby' in the Yamaha setting/options.

This seems to keep the Yamaha 'communicating' with the network so as soon as it's powered up it shows both the Synology and the MininServer as being available to stream from.

I've upped the interval setting for the SSDP to 900 seconds and with the Yamaha set up without 'eco-standby' it is quite happy and working fine. Roberts radio seems unaffected by the interval setting so that's happy as well.
