The online manual can be downloaded from this link. See section 4.1.6 (pages 57 to 59) for details of this setting.

If your router doesn't have this setting, perhaps the firmware needs to be updated. You should be able to get information about this from ASUS technical support.

Also, section 4.2.4 of the manual describes a setting named "Enable efficient multicast forwarding". This setting should be disabled.

RE: GETTING STARTED
I did see it under the LAN settings, but it implies that it is tied to snooping.

Which section in the manual shows these LAN settings? What was the "it" that you saw there?

RE: GETTING STARTED
I looked at the manual and I see what you are referring to but that option is not present on my screen. When I first fired up the router it updated to the latest firmware . I guess I will have to contact Asus. I am really puzzled and frustrated. I will certainly let you know what I learn.

RE: GETTING STARTED
So I spent about an hour with Asus support, upgraded firmware and still no forwarding option. They had no answer. Is there another router that works with Minimserver and Naim?

I am sorry to hear that you are having so many problems with this.

I am sure there are many suitable routers because most users are not having these problems. My own setup uses a separate router and wireless access point (both Cisco) but this would be too expensive and difficult to configure for most uers.

Here is the list of routers that I posted as a link in post #23 of this thread:

Buffalo WHR-G300N AirStation (Firmware V1.82/1.85)
Buffalo Airstation WZR-1166DHP
ZyXEL NBG-417N
ZyXEL NBG-4615 (Fimware 1.00(BWQ.2)C0 )
Billion BiPAC 6200 NXL
D-Link DIR-655/B (Firmware 2.00 , 12, Aug, 2010) (Advanced - Enable Multicast Streams)
D-Link DIR-645 (Firmware v1.04)
Negtgear WNR2200
D-LINK DWR-921 (Firmware 2.00b5 used with 3G/4G to allow remote Exakt updates)
Ubiquiti AirRouter WiFi 2.4GHz Indoor MIMO Router

This suggests that routers from Buffalo, ZyXEL, Billion, D-Link, NETGEAR and Ubiquiti would be suitable.

I will also start a new forum thread asking users to post their experiences of routers that work correctly with multicast discovery.

RE: GETTING STARTED
So I have purchased a high end Buffalo router and I cannot find anywhere to enable wireless multicast streaming. I did also download a version of Asset UPNP. I like Minimserver much better, but I have no trouble accessing Asset like I do Minimserver. Does that give you any clues as to what might be my problem? Is it possible that there is an issue with my iPad? Thanks again for all of your help. I really like your program and I would love to have it work consistently for me.

The correct functioning of Asset is further evidence that the problem is related to wireless multicast discovery.

Asset is broadcasting SSDP "alive" messages every 60 seconds as a crude workaround for the muticast discovery issue. The ohNet UPnP stack that MinimServer uses doesn't do this. I have discussed this with the ohNet developers and their response was that it isn't good idea to flood the network in this way and it isn't necesssary to do this if the client and the network are functioing correctly.

If you observe this closely, you will probably notice that Asset isn't discovered immediately when the iPad comes out of sleep but takes a little while to show up (less than 60 seconds). Similarly, you should see that MinimServer shows up when it broadcasts its next "alive" message (up to 15 minutes). If your network is working correctly, the discovery should be instant in both cases.

What exactly is your complete network setup? What is the exact model of the Buffalo router you are now using? Are you using a switch as well as a router? How is the QNAP running MinimServer connected to the network? Do you have any powerline connections?

RE: GETTING STARTED
To start from the source, I have FIOS fiber optic internet at 30 up/30 down service. I have installed the Buffalo WXR-1900HPD router. I am also using a Netgear Pro ethernet switch. I have a QNAP TS-231 NAS with Seagate HD that is hardwired to the network. My Naim ND5XS streamer is also hardwired to the network. Both the NAS and the Naim are connected to the switch and from there to the router. I am using an iPad Mini 2 and an iPhone 6 as control devices with the Naim streaming software.
Again, thanks so much for your help with this. I am no IT genius, but even with my limited knowledge and experience I am baffled. The Minimserver program I am using was on the QNAP "app store."

Thanks for this. On the router, under Wireless - Multicast Control, is the Snooping box checked? If so, please uncheck it.

If this doesn't fix the problem, what is the exact model of Netgear Pro switch?
