Just a note for Onkyo users who are having "Cannot play media" issues.... Simon thinks that he may know what is causing the problem and is hopefully going to be working on a fix over the next week or so.

I'm sorry, but it's not quite clear to me from the above exactly which MinimServer combinations are working and which are failing. Can you give exact details of the complete setup for this working combination:

MinimServer works alright with Bubble UPnP on my Android Devices;

and the complete setups for these failing combinations:

- ONKYO TX-NR808. I can browse but get the message "Cannot Play";
- OPPO 93EU cannot find the server;
-Using Android Bubble UPnP "Resource not found (code 716)";
-Using Android iMediaShare Lite finds the server but: "Unknown error has occurred"

Hi Simon, sorry for the ambiguities in my mail.

When I say:

-Using Android Bubble UPnP "Resource not found (code 716)";

I mean that when I am using a Nexus 7 with Android running Bubble UPnP and trying to use the Onkyo as renderer I get the message "Resource not found (code 716)".

If I use the Nexus as renderer I can play the music without any problems.

-Using Android iMediaShare Lite, it finds the MinimServer but I get the message: "Unknown error has occurred.

I mean that I am using a Nexus 7 with Android running iMediaShare Lite but I cannot browse or play even with the Nexus.

My OPPO 93EU cannot see MinimServer at all, but it can see and play with Twonky 6.0.39.

I forgot to mention tha I am using the latest firmwares evrywhere.

There are three different problems here:

1) Onkyo code 716
2) iMediaShareLite
3) OPPO 93U

I should be able to reproduce and debug problem 2). Problems 1) and 3) will be more difficult, as I don't have the equipment that produces these problems.

The message "Unknown error has occurred" is displayed by iMediaShareLite when I hit enter to select MinimServer library.

The message "Resource not found (code 716)" Is displayed by BubbleUPnP when, from the Nexus 7 I try to play using the Onkyo as renderer.

When I browse with the Onkyo and try to play I get the "cannot play"

With Twonky there are no messages, and everything runs OK in all different configurations: running from Onkyo browser or using Onkyo as renderer from Nexus (with both iMediaShareLite or BubbleuPnP) .

I fully understand your difficulties regarding points 1 and 3 but I hope that solving problem 2 will solve problem 3 as well.

Regarding point 1 I had the idea that you already have a solution?

That's the renderer UPnP response code to SetAVTransportURI when passed a minimserver stream URL (and DIDL fragment).

It means that the renderer SetAVTransportURI implementation code did not like either the URI or the metadata.

Some renderers makes a HEAD request to the Media Server to check if the URL exists and sometimes require a valid response response header for the "getcontentFeatures.dlna.org: 1" header in the request.
Or maybe it checks the mime-type to see if it likes it.
Or it have trouble encoding properly complex URLs.

Or the SetAVTransportURI implementation may not like the protocolInfo specified in the metadata argument.

It would be interesting to check if it works with minimserver proxified by BubbleUPnP Server.

Thanks for this information. I'll need to investigate all these possibilities to find out which one is causing the issue with the Onkyo renderer.

I know what is causing the Onkyo problem. It's a bug in MinimServer, and will be fixed in the next release.

I can PM you a link to a test build so you can verify the fix. Please confirm whether you are running MinimServer on your Synology NAS.

I recently acquired a NAS (D-Link DNS-320L) and a network receiver (Onkyo TX-NR414) and am currently trying out various DLNA servers. Minimserver looks great so far, but unfortunately I am, too, hit by the "cannot play" problem on the Onkyo. I'd be very interested to try out a fixed package.
