It is possible to run Wireshark to get a log of all the data that is exchanged between the Sony and MinimServer.

I don't know of any way to find out which piece of data is upsetting the Sony by its presence or absence.
I suppose one could ask the serviio designer?

The second paragraph of this page indicates that Serviio needs to use a custom device profile to enable DLNA on 2010 Sony devices. This is followed by a long list of limitations and issues with supporting DLNA on these devices which have apparently taken 5 years for the Serviio developers to understand and resolve. It would not be practical to replicate these workarounds and custom support in MinimServer.

Actually, having been involved in those discussions at the time I say it isn't quite as bad as that.

Most of those discussions were in fact a debate on whether one should use a blanket remux and transcode for everything or try to make the Sony play as much as possible native.
For audio outside of sound tracks inside video mux files there's only one alternative, lpcm. So if the Sony could be made to accept minimserver as a dlna server, the only effort left would be to make minimstreamer always step.in and send lpcm, linear pcm, to the Sony.

Not that I'd put a significant effort into that, either. Not that terribly important, just nice to have.

There is no official MinimServer support for FreeBSD, so it would be necessary to use the current approach of rebuilding libohNet for FreeBSD and copying it manually to replace the Linux version of libohNet.

Are you considering making FreeBSD support official??

I don't have any plans at present to do this. I'm not familiar with FreeBSD and it wouldn't be practical for me to set up a FreeBSD system for building and testing this in addition to the 27 other downloads that I am currently maintaining.

If the new version of libohnet will be compatible to the old one, it might be just enough to copy the file i provided again (just like it's done in my guide above twice). If the new version of libohnet is useful somehow, provides new features or is necessary in any way, I will of course compile it again and provide it here as a download.

You can check this compatibility by looking at the version number of the ohnet module file. For example the module file ohnet(linux-x86)-1.1.1452.zip has version number 1.1.1452. If this number changes in a future MinimServer update, you would need to recompile a new version of the ohNet source code.

I just found that with a recent update of MinimServer, the zip file with the libs was updated to ohnet(linux-x64)-1.1.1452.3.zip. It automatically removed my version of the zip file compiled previously. Interestingly, the system still works without me having replaced the file again with my version. Can this possibly be or did I update the file and forget about it? :-)
