RE: MinimStreamer Installation
Hi.
I have a ds214play and have installed minimserver and minimstreamer on it. I have minimwatch installed on my notebook. I have further set the streamer.transcode property to "flac:wav24". I use synology's audio station for playback.

My hardware config is a direct connection from my nas to a Meridian director dac via usb, and from there rca to my Naim preamp.

Can I assume that this is all I need to do for the transcoding to work?

I fear not. MinimServer is a UPnP server, which means that it is network-based and does not work through USB connections. Unless your DAC can be network connected in its own right, which I believe yours cannot, you would need a computer, with appropriate software and connected to the NAS via your network (which would probably need to be wired rather than wireless if you are streaming wav24), to act as renderer, with your DAC connected via USB to the computer. Others more expert than me can advise whether something like a Raspberry Pi can be used for this purpose; some technical knowledge would be needed for this approach. Most any computer could be used, but you lose the main advantage of the NAS, which is that it saves you having to keep a computer running just to play music.

Another approach would be to use a separate network player with a digital output, rather than a computer, to feed your DAC. The Meridian brochure for the Director seems to envisage this usage, but it adds to the cost of your system, and the capabilities of network players vary; it seems that few inexpensive players can play gapless, for example.

Finally, you also need a Control Point to direct the activities of the server and renderer. Again, this is software typically hosted on a tablet, phone or computer. Some software combines the player and control functions, and network players have their own control software and/or can be worked by their own remote control.

RE: MinimStreamer Installation
Hi

I am pretty new to PC audio, and although I have read the chain I am still not clear.

I have created a m3u file, and I can see this file on my Android (BubbleUPNP) in the Playlist using Minimserver as the Library playlist in the library. I can see two stations: "[ABC] ABC Classic FM" and "ABC Classic FM" (and this is replicated for other stations eg BBC Radio 1. This serves a Moon 180 renderer.

The second one plays fine, but the first doesn't play at all although it appears in the playlist in BubbleUPnPlist. Clicking it results in "Current State of service prevents invoking that action. timeout waiting for playing (code 501)."
What have I done wrong? Or is there a way to hide the first, inoperable item, and just have the playable second option?
Many thanks!

In your .m3u file, you can remove [ABC] from the stream name. This is used only if you want to route the stream via MinimStreamer as described in this section.

RE: MinimStreamer Installation
Hi
I have been using MinimServer very successfully to stream music from my Synology NAS to a Cambridge Audio NP30. I have also been listening to Radio 3 (320aac) on the NP30 until it was discontinued this week. I have been looking for alternatives to access the new Radio 3 HLS stream and saw that Simon hopes to make this available via MinimStreamer.

I was delighted to hear this and have been trying to set up MinimStreamer to stream Linn Classical as in the example provided in the User Guide in anticipation. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work. My control point is an iPad using the StreamMagic app. I can see the playlist folder but only one entry "Linn Radio Classical" which as the guide indicates doesn't connect the "[Linn] Linn Radio Classical" entry is missing .

Not sure where I am going wrong as this is difficult stuff for me but I would greatly appreciate help to enable me to set it up correctly.

Many thanks.

Please post the exact contents of the .m3u playlist file you are using.

RE: MinimStreamer Installation
This is what I copied to a text file with .rtf ending I changed this to .m3u having read earlier posts, hope this is correct:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,[Linn] Linn Radio Classical
http://radio.linnrecords.com/cast/tunein...aylist.pls

Many thanks for your response.

RE: MinimStreamer Installation
Simon

Some progress, I read other posts from you and noted that the playlist file has to be saved in plain text, I hadn't previously noted this. I have changed it and can now see both Linn Radio Classical and [Linn] Linn Radio Classical unfortunately the Linn station is showing as 'unavailable' which doesn't seem to be anything to do with MinimStreamer as it is also unavailable on my normal preset as is Linn Jazz.

I think I should try a different station and see if I can get it to work.

Many thanks
