Information Track Tags Idea
Hello,

Due to the problems with .wav tags. Would it be possible to add a feature to the server to read tag information from a provided xml file. An xml file per track with the same filename but a different extension. I am able to provide artist & album covers via folder.jpg and cover.jpg. I think this would be a really useful feature.
The existance of this file would overide any tags contained in the audio file.

One for the wish list / ideas list?

Thanks for this excellent software.
I will donate as soon as I am able to.

RE: Track Tags Idea
One suggestion is to just use a good converter like XLD or dbpoweramp and convert your wav files to a lossless format like FLAC that supports better tagging.

What is the problem with .wav tags? MinimServer can read ID3v2 tags from .wav files.

I don't want to get into a sound quality debate but I find wav files a little better to listen to when compairing cd quality audio. wav files also seem to be the most universally compatible file format.
My CD rips are a mixture of wavs and aif. The aif rips contain metadata. When trying to stream aif files to the ps3, the ps3 tells me its unsupported data. Wav files play OK.
I tried converting the aif files to wav with iskysoft converter. The converted files won't scan with minimserver. I get an unexpected end of file error in wav file shown in the log.

To me the whole metadata situation seems a bit of a pain. It would be much easier for me if the metadata was contained in an xml file that could be editied in a standard editor. At the moment there seems to be lots of different programs for metadata. It's a bit like the dark arts at hogwarts, you cant see whats in there.

Just an idea.

I will look into wav metadata thanks.

This error isn't related to metadata. It means the converter you used is buggy and has written the WAV file in an incorrect format. I have found dBpoweramp to be a very quick and reliable file converter.

The current situation isn't perfect but it is a widely used and well supported industry standard. I don't think it would make sense for me to try to invent an alternative nonstandard metadata system.

Thanks. I will give dbpoweramp a try when I can get my windows laptop.

Hi, sounds as if you may be an Apple user.

Therefore my hint that the people at Illustrate are currently finishing the development of a Mac version of dbpoweramp, which has still Beta status but should be useable with full function at least 20 days or more as from 1st installation. The final Mac release is supposed to be published within the next 3 months. I myself did some testing on the converter and did not find any obvious error within their batch converter. So - if suitable, give it a try.
