RE: problem installing minim server on Synology NAS DS212J)
I am at work now but yesterday evening I tried installing MinimServer (MinimServer-0.8.2-arm.spk) at home from a PC at home resulting in the same dreaded 'Operation Failed' dialog box. I also tried on a second Synology unit (the same model, a DS212j but running an older version of DSM (5.0-4458 Update 2) and Java SE Embedded 8 (version 1.8.0_6-0028)) with identical results; 'Operation Failed'.

Hope this helps, thanks for your support in solving this irritating snag.

Hi, were you logged in as a user with administration privileges when you tried to install these packages?

Thanks for trying this. This proves that the problem isn't caused by anything in the MinimServer or Java packages, as the other download isn't using these packages.

When you do a manual install, there are some network exchanges between the PC and the NAS to transfer the file from the PC to the NAS. I think something in your network setup must be blocking these exchanges. You should be able to get help with this from Synology technical support. When you contact them, tell them that you have tried doing a manual install with different packages and they are all failing.

Is there a way to install from a USB thumb drive or from a file already on the NAS, circumventing whatever network issues exist?

I don't think this is possible.

It is working. The problem was in the browser I was using (Opera). With IE (previously believed to be good only to download the browser you actually want to use) everything worked without any issues. Yeah Microsoft.

RE: problem installing minim server on Synology NAS DS212J)
more on this from Synology support. Looks like the DS212J is not meant to work with Minimserver.... (?)

"If in the download center in our web site : https://www.synology.com/fr-fr/support/download/DS212j your packages is not here and here the MinimServer show all models supported https://www.synology.com/fr-fr/dsm/app_p...inimServer and the DS212j is not supported.
The DVBlink is supported but not the Minim server. "

Guess I'll end up installing Minimserver on a Mac mini which I'll then have to link to the NAS. I'd have preferred to go directly from the NAS to the Aries - and still struggle to believe the NAS being the issue - but probably have to take my losses.

appreciate all the hints and efforts suggested!

M

This information from Synology support is incorrect. Which browser have you been using to do the manual install? It seems that changing to a different browser is likely to solve the problem.

I tried this using Opera 25.0 on Windows and it is working for me.
