Problem Installing Java on Netgear Ultra Plus NAS

Problem Installing Java on Netgear Ultra Plus NAS
Hi all
I am a new member and would appreciate the following assistance with installing Java on my Netgear ultra NAS.

As instructed I download the packed Java file with the .tar.gz extension. I copied this to the Back up Share on the NAS. No Problem.
I then downloaded the EJRE (for the Ultra NAS) and saved this on my downloads.
I opened the NAS Frontview and installed the EJRE file. This is where I have a problem.
When I clicked the install button after about 20 seconds I get a message.
"The add-on image is valid. Click install if you wish to install the image now" when I do this again I get a message
" Error : No EJRE archive file on "back up share"

Netgear then sends me an email " The EJRE installer add -on encountered an error during installation.

I have tried deleting files and starting again but same things happen.

I would very much appreciate if I can be pointed in the right direction to resolve this problem.

As an aside I was recommended Minimserver by Auralic to work with their new Aries bridge which I have just purchased. This would allow me to play DSD files via my Luxman Da 06 DAC so I am quite keen to resolve this issue.

Thank You
Robert

Welcome to the MinimServer forum!

What is the exact name of the .tar.gz file that is on your backup share?

It appears that Oracle has changed the Java SE Embedded packaging and naming convention for Java 8. It should work if you download this file:

ejre-7u60-fcs-b19-linux-arm-sflt-headless-07_may_2014.tar.gz

My apologies. For the Ultra (an x86 model), the correct file is ejre-7u60-fcs-b19-linux-i586-headless-07_may_2014.tar.gz

You may have solved my problem.
My only question at this time is the update has been going on for over an hour and a half. Is this normal?
The NAS light keeps flashing "update" so guess something is happening.
Appreciate your comments

Do you mean the EJRE installation is taking this long or the initial MinimServer startup is taking this long?

The EJRE installation should take less than a minute and should show a message in FrontView saying the EJRE service has been started. The first MinimServer startup needs to scan all your files and this can take a long time if you have a very large library (tens of thousands of files). Subsequent restarts are much quicker because MinimServer uses cached information.

I am still trying to install Java files with EJRE.
(My music files are pretty small at this stage (about 30 files))
I have now stopped the installation and sure enough the NAS says no add ons have been installed.
I tried again and this time got a message saying" Local File upload failed"
I am using the file you have advised and the EJRE installer Ver 0.10 April 2013 Size 20 KB
Anything you can suggest would be welcome
Robert

I've done some web searching for this error message and it seems it may indicate a problem with uploading the EJRE package .bin file (not the Oracle .tar.gz file) from your PC or Mac to your NAS.

A comment on one forum thread has suggested that this could be caused by the OS partition on the NAS being full.

As a first step, I suggest you power off and on both the NAS and the PC or Mac that you are using to do the installation, then retry the installation.

Edit: I also found a post from someone with this problem who had success when using a different browser.
