Another option if you want to access your music collection remotely is to install Plex Media Server. I have this running and it points to the same directories that MinimServer does, MinimServer provides access for my Linn DS streamers and Plex for everything else - Live TV, recorded video content, photos and music. Note, I don't use Plex's on UPNP capability as it's nowhere on-par with MinimServer.

It has been a long time since I opened this thread. Many thanks to everyone who contributed.

Since then, a very helpful guide to installing OpenVPN on Synology has appeared on YouTube.

I followed the instructions, and even I was was able to get BubbleUPnP to find my MinimServer library remotely.

If anyone is still struggling with this, I can recommend it.
