RE: New installation teething problems
Hi Simon,
It appears the fault is with Easytag. I am using v 2.4.3 which is now from GNOME github and available from my OS repo. I have raised an issue with them. Meanwhile what software should I use to look into the details of the format of the tags. Thanks again for your help, Regards, Budge |

RE: New installation teething problems
I use a hex editor to look at what is in the tags. This requires some understanding of the tag metadata format.

I tried to use puddletag which required installing snapd etc. and then I found that puddletag couldn't see my data because it is on a soft link from another array. having copied the six Dylan albums to a normal working directory I think I tagged them correctly puddletag with preferences set to ID3v2.4. All six Bob Dylan albums are shown in Genre>Rock>Artist=Bob Dylan. When I tagged with easytag id3v2.4 I found the (17) at the top of the Genre column. I understand this to mean that easytag is broken and have posted an issue but support will be slow. Any way to get this fix applied more quickly? Meanwhile I must find out why puddletag is not happy with my soft link! Many thanks Budge. |

RE: New installation teething problems
As the ID3v2.4 tags are written correctly by puddletag, this provides additional confirmation that the problem is caused by EasyTag.
What fix are you asking me about getting applied more quickly? No fix to MinimServer is needed and I have no influence over the authors of EasyTag. |

RE: New installation teething problems
Hi Simon, what I was thinking was if I could examine the actual tag scripts themselves rather then the outcome, just to understand. I should be preparing a bug report but am not really qualified. Will check out with Bless Hex Editor and see if I can work it out. Wasn't quite thinking straight.
Of course EasyTag is not your concern and I am delighted with Minimserver and most grateful for your help. Best wishes, Budge. |

My music data is on a raid array mounted on /mastermedia and symlinked to my desktop directory. When setting up minimserver should I set the configuration content directory as the data directory or the symlink? I ask because my taskbar minimserver icon is bright red and the log telles me MinimServer package not found!!! |

RE: New installation teething problems
The content directory can be either the actual directory or a symlink to it.
An error saying that the MinimServer package is not found is not related to your content directory settings. Please post the complete exact text of all error messages you are seeing. |

Here is what I have:- Code: alastair@ibmserver3:~/minim-home> minimserver/bin/startcIf I go to the web configuration page and chack the license I now get:- Code: org.jminim.LogErrorException: Unable to save property .licenseType to file /home/alastair/minimserver/data/minimserver.config: save error java.io.FileNotFoundException: /home/alastair/minimserver/data/minimserver.config.tmp (No such file or directory)At one time I had the minimserver icon in red on task bar but no longer. It is quite possible I need to clean up and start over. If I do this where will the system files be hiding? |

RE: New installation teething problems
I suggest you do this:
rm -rf /home/alastair/minimserver This will completely remove your broken installation of MinimServer. After this, you can do the installation and setup again. |

RE: New installation teething problems
Hi Simon,
Did as you suggested and after starting the app from my desktop I now have the red icon back. This is what the log states:- MinimServer 2.0.18, Copyright © 2012-2020 Simon Nash. All rights reserved. OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.11+9-suse-3.56.1-x8664) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.11+9-suse-3.56.1-x8664, mixed mode) Platform default charset is UTF-8 System platform is linux-x64 MinimServer package not found Startup complete MinimServer package not found I think there are remains of earlier attempts still lurking. Looking at Properties>Packages tab there is nothing installed. |
