I think the confusion is when you said unfortunately there isn't a "number of tracks" tag where actually there is, for ID3 implemented as part of the TRACK field and for other format as a separate field. This can be added either automatically or manually to your files using your preferred tagging solution, and yes Jaikoz can do both auto and manual adding of this data.

As Paul intimated, Minimserver recognises the 'Track No/Total' tag format and internally creates a TRACKNUMBER tag and TOTALTRACKS tag. It is these tags that I presume are presented to the control point. Kinsky, at least, only displays the track number with the track.

I've been playing around with the earlier ideas with the following result.

add following to tagUpdate file:-
@TOTALTRACKS=1
+SINGLE=1
@TRACK COUNT=1
+SINGLE=1
@RELEASE TYPE=Single
+SINGLE=1

add to indexTags properties:-
SINGLE=1:Singles

add to itemTags properties:-
TOTALTRACKS, TRACK COUNT, RELEASE TYPE

So, this should handle whichever option is chosen and can be extended for other choices.

BTW - entries under 'Singles' will appear as albums if the 'Album' tag is populated. So, either this must be removed or perhaps the use of the listViewAlbums could be the answer but this also affects other indexes.

I've always considered that in terms of tagging album is a bit of a misnomer its really a release and therefore a valid if an album release, the original UK style single release (i.e 2-3 track release) or literally a single track release. Therefore the Album tag really should be populated regardless of release type, not populating it will likely cause problems.
