License not properly deactivated

My two Raspberry Pi musicservers with minimserver (full license) are running for about two years now. Recently I configured a new microsdcard with the lastest Pi OS for one of the Pi's. Before sticking in the new card I wanted to deactivate the minimserver license using minimwatch on my Mac. After that I inserted the new card and installed minimserver. The deactivation did not seem to go well and I find myself with all three available licenses used up - however, I am only running two servers. I upgraded the license to 5 just to remove the limitation. Does deactivate really work every time ?
