Solved - Java 8u101 update blocked by windows firewall

Further to the advice given in post #5, the setting has been moved in the Windows Anniversary Update (version 1607).

For this version, you open 'All Settings' as before, then navigate Personalisation > Taskbar > [scroll down to 'Notification Area'] > Select which icons appear on the taskbar, and then proceed as before.
