The buffering could be caused by the CPU on your NAS being overloaded (this should be easy to check) or by an issue with one of your network components. One way to troubleshoot the cause is to strip down your network to an absolute bare minimum. If this eliminates the problem, you can add back your normal network components one by one until the problem occurs.
