I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. I was simply describing the normal means of ensuring that a tag appears in the relevant browsing menu - populate the tags as required and ensure that they are indexed. That isn't the real point here. The point is that MinimServer does not work (and I for one would not want it to work) in the way you suggest.

As Simon says, you cannot pre-define what tags will and will not appear in the menu, and the whole point of MinimServer's intelligent (= adaptive) browsing system is that you would not wish to. If a tag choice appears in a menu, that means that the current track selection has tracks with more than one value for that tag, and so gives you the opportunity to select the tag value you require.

If particular tags are not relevant to, say, a particular genre, then, as Simon says, leave those tags blank in the tracks of that genre. But it seems to me that Dieter makes a fair point; most of the tags in common use are or may be relevant for all genres. Who knows, you may in time find yourself using those menu selections you currently feel are unnecessary ...
