Browse collections - lg.lindstrom - 07-02-2015 12:49 Hi All Is it possible to set up Minimserver to expose different Tags for different kind of music? My music collection consists of classical, jazz, Swedish, etc I would like to, from the Control Point (Bubble upnp), se a top level view corresponding to my collection, for example, Classical, Jazz, Rock, Swedish, etc. Browsing down a level I would like to se different "menues" depending on which collection you chose. For example, browsing down in the Classical collection I would like to see the Minimserver standard "menus" as of today. Browsing down in the Rock collection I would like to see a simpler selection of "menus" maybe focusing on Artists instead of Composers and Conductors. Is this vision possible to achieve? //regards //lg RE: Browse collections - DavidHB - 07-02-2015 13:17 You can do this already. Just make sure that your genre tags are populated in every track (you can even have multiple genre entries if you wish) and include genre in your indexTags entry. Minimserver's intelligent browsing feature will then ensure that the browse list presented to your Control Point responds to the browsing steps you take. After nearly 18 months of using MinimServer, I still enjoy and admire the way this happens. You will find a detailed description of intelligent browsing in this section of the MinimServer User Guide. This is because MinimServer treats all tags in the same way and allows you to browse by any tags at any time in any order. If you don't want to see Composer and Conductor tag choices when browsing your rock files, you can remove these tags from your rock files. Is there a reason why you don't want to do this? Is there a reason why you don't want to do this? Why should one want to do this? Composer or conductor can be as important for jazz or rock as for classical music. I was simply describing the normal means of ensuring that a tag appears in the relevant browsing menu - populate the tags as required and ensure that they are indexed. That isn't the real point here. The point is that MinimServer does not work (and I for one would not want it to work) in the way you suggest. As Simon says, you cannot pre-define what tags will and will not appear in the menu, and the whole point of MinimServer's intelligent (= adaptive) browsing system is that you would not wish to. If a tag choice appears in a menu, that means that the current track selection has tracks with more than one value for that tag, and so gives you the opportunity to select the tag value you require. If particular tags are not relevant to, say, a particular genre, then, as Simon says, leave those tags blank in the tracks of that genre. But it seems to me that Dieter makes a fair point; most of the tags in common use are or may be relevant for all genres. Who knows, you may in time find yourself using those menu selections you currently feel are unnecessary ... David RE: Browse collections - Dieter Stockert - 08-02-2015 07:50 I have organized my library using folders for classical music, jazz, rock ... Then I start browsing by folder view. If I go into classical and then continue by composer tag I see only the composers from this folder. Or if I start with folder view and go into the rock folder, then I can continue with any Tag and Minim Server will only show me the albums or songs from the rock folder. I think that comes close to what you want. RE: Browse collections - lg.lindstrom - 08-02-2015 14:40 hi I wanted to do this because it would have improved my user experience. Apparently this idea was not doable. ( I still think it is a good idea )/regards /lg RE: Browse collections - simoncn - 08-02-2015 16:20 (08-02-2015 14:40)lg.lindstrom Wrote: hi It is doable if you remove the tags that you don't want to use for browsing. |
