Bubbleguuum is the expert, but it does appear that foo_upnp supports the search function, but needs the server to do so as well (which MinimServer does not ... yet). My ReadyNAS has the ReadyDNLA server installed; if I access this server from foobar2000/foo_upnp, I can search my music library (the search field and button is immediately below the pane that shows the UPnP tab). When I switch to MinimServer, the button is greyed out. It is possible that miniDNLA (now renamed ReadyMedia on Sourceforge) may now have search capabilities, though I can find no reference to this in the documentation. MiniDNLA is written and maintained by a Netgear employee, and I had always thought that ReadyDNLA was a simple re-branding of miniDNLA when the server was installed in a ReadyNAS. The name change on SourceForge suggests that things are more complex than that, because it goes with a statement that the open source ReadyMedia/miniDNLA is not DNLA endorsed. By contrast, Netgear's product specifications use the DNLA logo for ReadyDNLA, which indicates that it is (no doubt expensively) licensed by the DNLA organisation. Whether this divergence of status also indicates a fork in the code base I do not know. If it doesn't, miniDNLA ought to be able to support media search. But that may well be of academic interest only on this forum; I doubt that anyone who has used MinimServer would prefer miniDNLA as a music server, with or without search capabilities. David |

RE: SONOS and MinimServer
I just checked - my instance of miniDLNA - which I use for video - does have search! I have never used it though, as I typically browse folders when it comes to video.
I agree though that MinimServer is better for music even as it stands today. Search would be nice though! |

RE: SONOS and MinimServer
Thanks, that's interesting. I use ReadyDLNA (which, from what you say, may still be the same as miniDNLA) for viewing images on my TV, which is why I still run it on my NAS. But even experimenting with it as a music server was a pretty frustrating experience.
