RE: Minimwatch problems on ubuntu gnome

It is caused by an incompatibility between Java and GNOME and I have added a temporary workaround in MinimServer to make these work together. At some point I hope there will be a fix in Java but for now this should restore normal functionality for MinimServer. My problem was with minimwatch to a network (normally headless) server, but I see you have updated minimwatch as well, and it works. Thanks very much indeed. I'm now running minimwatch on ubuntu 17.10, with java 9.0.1, on my desktop. |

RE: Minimwatch problems on ubuntu gnome
ubuntu 17.10 has given me the run-around on application indicators. After much mucking around and searching of the bug reports, I found that after uninstalling a number of indicator-... packages the "Ubuntu appindicators" gnome/ubuntu extension made all application indicators work, except, you guessed it, minimwatch. (See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sourc...ug/1728449 for one of the bug reports).
I had to add the "Topicons Plus" extension to see the minimwatch icons. One isn't meant to need this, "Ubuntu appindicators" supposedly doing the work to move icons from bottom left to top right (which it does for most), but unfortunately not minimwatch, which reports 'Unable to create tray icon'. With ubuntu things are further confused by having a range of ways to logon. I am currently using 'Ubuntu Xorg', which as I understand it is now an ubuntu flavour of gnome. I know this isn't your bug, and I do now have a workaround, so all is well, for now.... |

RE: Minimwatch problems on ubuntu gnome
Thanks for this information. Like you, I have found that only TopIcons Plus is able to make Java tray icons work on the latest 3.26 version of GNOME—see this post. If you hear of any other solution, please let me know.

RE: Minimwatch problems on ubuntu gnome
I am using Xorg as well. With the default "Wayland" (not really sure what this means), my NVIDIA graphics card produces a colourful snowstorm.
Linux (the OS part) is great and very consistent; the GUI part is something of a nightmare.
