The DVBlink is supported but not the Minim server. "

Guess I'll end up installing Minimserver on a Mac mini which I'll then have to link to the NAS. I'd have preferred to go directly from the NAS to the Aries - and still struggle to believe the NAS being the issue - but probably have to take my losses.

appreciate all the hints and efforts suggested!

I installed MinimServer on a 212j and it is working like a charm. My setup is very similar to yours. I am feeding an Aries controlled by the Auralic Lightning DS App and I am impressed by the way all the different elements (NAS, Aries, DAC & iPad) seamlessly work together.

I was concerned that performance would be an issue as the 212j is not exactly a powerhouse (with a rather anemic processor an just a little RAM) but the unit is handling it's part of the process with aplomb.

In summary: it does work (quite well actually). Please let me know if I can answer any specific questions you might have.

I tried this using Opera 25.0 on Windows and it is working for me.

I am stuck at version 12.17 (the last version before they messed it up) but I start to notice more and more that the cyber-world is moving forward while my favorite browser is standing still.

This information from Synology support is incorrect. Which browser have you been using to do the manual install? It seems that changing to a different browser is likely to solve the problem.

I'm using Safari on my mac, haven't used any other since having used MAC. I'll try another, but find it interesting to say the least that a browser has an impact, but what do I know.

I tried this using Safari 8.0 on my Mac and it is working OK.

Do you get a message about accepting the MinimServer license before you get the "Operation failed" error?

RE: problem installing minim server on Synology NAS DS212J)
I did not get to the option to accept a license, it went straight to "operation failed". I did get a notice to update my DSM - but only yesterday - which I did and miraculously installation went smoothly and am now running the package so far without issues.

thanks for the many suggestions and patience, hope I'll be smooth sailing from now on.

regards, M

RE: problem installing minim server on Synology NAS DS212J)
Hi,

I have a similar(?) problem in installing MinimServer on my NAS212J.

Java v8 has been installed on NAS (many thanks, Simon!).
DSM 5.1 has also been installed on NAS.

As MimimServer does not appear in package store/multimedia, I am attempting to manually install it.

When I click open on the downloaded folder (MinimServer-08.2a-x86), nothing opens. Rather, I see a number of subfolders/files such as MinimServer, Scripts or wizard uifiles, but DSM tells me these files have "invalid formats".

File browsing does not allow me to choose what I believe is the original, packed file (.spk) but rather what I believe is the unpacked file (ending in x86 and showing no .spk). Downloading the file failed with Firefox, so I used Safari.

I am using MacBook Pro (2012) with Yosemite OS.
Help! Many thanks,

Steven

You have downloaded the wrong MinimServer package. Please read the instructions on this page carefullly. As you will see, the DS212J has an ARMv5 processor and therefore requires the MinimServer-0.8.2-arm.spk download.

If you do a Manual Install in the Package Center, you should be able to select the MinimServer-0.8.2-arm.spk file. If your browser has extracted the contents of this file into a folder instead of downloading it in its original correct format, you should try downloading it using a different browser.

RE: problem installing minim server on Synology NAS DS212J)
For the record, I have a 212j running MinimServer just fine. Java 7, DSM 5.1, works like a dream. The only thing I cannot get to work properly is the auto rescan but that is a minor issue.

Thanks, Beckphotonik. For the record, I had downloaded the correct MinimServer package, but I referred to another one in my post. I solved the problem by re-installing Firefox and re-manually installing the package. MinimServer now works!

Only problem is that Synology DSM no longer shows up as an option under UPnP servers on my control point (iPad2). I don't miss it for now, but shouldn't it still appear as an OPTION in addition to MinimServer? I would like to do a double blind test comparing DSM to MinimServer as I have managed to set MinimServer to transcode to wav24.

My other Synology NAS, a DS211, has both MinimServer and Synology media server running and both servers appear on my control points, an iPad running Chord HD and a Nexus 7 running android 4.4.4 with both Chord HD and BubbleUPnP.
