My apologies for not noticing in your original post that you are running MinimServer on a Mac and not on the Synology NAS. The tutorial link I posted applies only for MinimServer running on a Synology NAS.

The instructions for your situation are in the Note to step 9 of this section.

I may be incorrect as I've only ever had MinimServer installed on the device where the storage is mounted locally, but the user guide states:
"Each content directory must be specified as a fully qualified absolute path in the file system of the device running MinimServer."

Actually I've just tried successfully with \\server_ip\share and that worked on windows (to a smb share), so an equivalent should work on the mac e.g. \\server_ip\volume1\music?

@simoncn will be along shortly to resolve it for you, I think he just missed the fact that you were running MinimServer on a mac mini.

based on the Log I assume the system is scanning my music folder (attached). so it looks like it's working /Volumes/music

Apologies I didn't know 'Volumes' was some kind of abstraction for, well I'm not really sure, any kind of storage I guess, be it local or remote.

No problem at all … /Volumes “prefix” on macOS identifies remote shared folders.

It looks like the share on the Synology is called music, so in Windows \\server_ip\music probably would have worked (Linux would use /) but maybe apple has chosen a different path, or at least offered another easier/more abstracted one ;-)
