It would be worth trying powering the machine off and on (or at least logging out and logging in) to see if that makes any difference.

OK - now I'm confused. I rebooted and ran up the Console to see if anything obvious showed there and suddenly it sprang into life, asked me whether it could accept incoming connections and found the MinimServer running on my Synology NAS. I've rebooted again and it continues to work.
