iPad control point?
I really like the JRemote controller but I think the JRiver Media Center is too big and too complex. Is there anyway the JRemote can be used as control point with the MinimServer?

JRemote isn't a UPnP control point. It uses a proprietary protocol to talk to JRiver Media Center, which means it can't be used with any other server.

OK thanks, I thought it was an UPnP control point is it uses DLNA to communicate with my PS Audio DAC. Is there any other similar control point that can be used on an iPad with MinimServer?

RE: iPad control point?
There are several. I use MinimServer to feed a PSA PerfectWave II dac. I mainly use PSA's own eLyric control point (not to be confused with the EMM music server software). It is a bit buggy (sometimes quits for no reason, but the music keeps playing and I just restart it). However it lets one control PSA-specific functions like choosing inputs, which is a necessity for me since the remote control doesn't work due to the distance and angle from my chair. Kinsky has been my second choice, and many MinimServer users like it. I just got the Audionet control point, which is very fast and has some good features. It is now probably tied with Kinsky for second place (but you have to pay $7.00 if you want playlists with more than five songs, unless you own Audionet hardware -- but at least you can try it for free).

The Lumin App is a great control point for the iPad and works very well with MinimServer. And its free.

I think it is JRiver MC that is communicating with the PS Audio DAC via DLNA, and JRemote is communicating with JRiver MC via a proprietary protocol.

Another control point option for the iPad is iMediaShare. This seems to work reasonably well on my iPod, but I haven't spent much time using it.

The Lumin App only works if your renderer has Linn DS extensions - i.e. Linn DS hardware and the Lumin player.

You can get it to work if you install http://www.bubblesoftapps.com/bubbleupnpserver/ which acts as a bridge between Linn Extensions and a "standard" UPnP renderer. I don't think gapless is supported though if thats important.

I've never been sure if Lumin is a great control point - especially if you use the extended functions of Minimserve for classical music, etc. but again thats a different subject...

RE: iPad control point?
I just have to say that I've been looking for a good uPnP renderer/controller for my father's iPad/iPhone. The kinksy one is pretty good, plugplayer sucks, and I don't remember the other one I tried.

I'll try a few of the ones mentioned in this thread but I have to say that nothing compares with BubbleUpnp on Android Smile

Unfortunately, BubbleUPnPserver does not support gapless playback, and will not for the foreseeable future.
