MinimWatch MacOs27: Error LibjliOpenError
Hi,

MinimWatch used to work fine on my old Intel Mac.

Now, updated to Mac with Apple Silicon processor, MinimWatch (2.2.r5) doesn't work anymore. When trying to start, an error is shown: LibjliOpenError.

Reinstall was not succesful: same error.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,
Thokra

You need to remove "Open using Rosetta." See this forum post.

Just tried your solution, but on my Mac it's just the other way round: I solved the problem by activating "open with rosetta", not deactivating. A little bit confusing...

Hi,
I have no idea why that works—for me, using "Rosetta" causes an error. Apple has announced plans to drop support for Rosetta in OS28 ("cutting ties with the past"), so I would recommend uninstalling the app and setting it up again from scratch, following Simon's instructions.

Hallo Klaus,

Yes, I know, but thank you for the reminder. The new installation of Java didn't make any difference - unfortunately. Maybe Simon will get in touch again...

Hallo Thokra,

That sounds really strange; for some reason I cannot fathom, the operating system is interpreting the MinimWatch app as an application for Intel processors.
The only solutions here are a "clean slate" approach or contacting SimonWink.
Regarding the "clean slate" approach:
1. Uninstall the Watch app
2. Install the latest JDK
3. Then reinstall the Watch app according to the instructions
by the way - my MinimWatch log file looks like this:
MinimWatch 2.2 update 120, Copyright © 2012-2026 Simon Nash. All rights reserved.
Java™ SE Runtime Environment (build 26.0.1+8-34)
Java HotSpot™ 64-Bit Server VM (build 26.0.1+8-34, mixed mode, sharing)
Java runtime options: -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
Platform default charset is UTF-8
System platform is macos-arm

Hello Klaus,

Thank you! Yes, now MinimWatch runs without Rosetta. The problem was obviously that my Java 8 was displayed as current, even though it is outdated. Now I have installed Java 25 and the desired effect has occurred.

By the way: Has the icon in the toolbar changed for you as well? No longer 2 notes on the note lines, but a single note without a background? This just for completeness to make sure that the installation hasn't somehow failed.

Klaus, thank you again!

RE: MinimWatch MacOs27: Error LibjliOpenError
I am pleased to hear that this problem is now solved. Java 8 is for Intel x64 only, so it needs Rosetta to run on an ARM64 Mac.

Please don't quote previous posts every time you reply to a post. This causes large chains of previous posts to be included in every post, cluttering the forum thread and making it very hard to read. For example, post #9 is quoting posts #8, #7, #6, #5 and #4 and contains 33 lines of quoted text with one line of new text.

When you reply to a post, there is a choice of a small Reply button at the bottom of the post and a larger New Reply button at the bottom of the thread. The Reply button automatically quotes the post in the reply, leading to the problem described above. The New Reply button creates a new reply with no quoted text.

There is normally no need to quote previous posts when replying to a post. Quoting a previous post or part of a previous post is sometimes necessary when you are replying to a specific comment from earlier in the thread. In this case, you should use the Reply button from the earlier post and edit the quoted text to the minimum needed to provide a context for what you are saying in your post. In all other cases, you should use the New Reply button and not include any quoted text.

It is also helpful to use the Preview Post button to see the exact text that will be posted when you click Post Reply. If anything is there that shouldn't be there, you can make adjustments before clicking Post Reply.

Following these guidelines makes forum threads easier to read for other users browsing the forums and enables them to find the information they need without needing to scroll through large amounts of duplicated text.
