MinimWatch does not function correctly under COSMIC Wayland
Pop!_OS 24.04 / COSMIC / Wayland
MinimWatch, the Java-based management application for MinimServer, does not function correctly in the COSMIC desktop environment. MinimWatch starts and its process is running, but its desktop/tray interaction does not behave correctly under COSMIC. The same MinimWatch installation works normally on another Linux desktop environment. Environment: Pop!_OS 24.04 COSMIC desktop Wayland OpenJDK 11 MinimWatch 2.2 update 120 MinimServer/MinimWatch is Java-based Comparison: MinimWatch continues to work correctly on my Linux Mint system, so this appears to be related to the COSMIC desktop/Wayland environment rather than MinimWatch itself. Expected behavior: MinimWatch should start normally and provide its normal desktop/tray interface. Actual behavior: MinimWatch starts, but its desktop/tray functionality does not behave correctly under COSMIC. No tray icons. |

RE: MinimWatch does not function correctly under COSMIC Wayland
MinimWatch uses Java to display tray icons. Java uses the XEmbed protocol (part of X11) to display tray icons. There is a newer API for this (SNI) that doesn't need X11.
Some Linux systems support both XEmbed and SNI, so they work with MinimWatch tray icons. Some Linux systems have an add-on that can be installed to enable support for XEmbed and MinimWatch tray icons. Some Linux systems have no ability to support XEmbed, so there is no possibility for MinimWatch tray icons to work. Based on your experience, it appears that Pop!_OS 24.04/COSMIC might fall into the last category. It would be worth asking the developers of Pop!_OS 24.04/COSMIC whether it is possible to use an add-on (for example, xembed-sni-proxy) to support legacy applications that use the XEmbed protocol. Alternatively, you can use the MinimServer configuration web page in a web browser to manage MinimServer running on another device. |

RE: MinimWatch does not function correctly under COSMIC Wayland
Thank you Simon,
I am aware of the Web browser (port 9792) however that lacks two things...You dont see if rescan is working until is done and the last rescan timestamp is refreshed (not crazy important) , however lack of having the log is something I really miss. I am taking music tags seriously and relaying on the log for possible errors. My minimserver is on Unraid nas as a docker, where can i find the log? Under what name? Regards Bob |

RE: MinimWatch does not function correctly under COSMIC Wayland
When you select Rescan from the MinimServer configuration web page, the status on the page changes to Rescanning and changes again to Running when the rescan is complete. This is more informative than what you see when rescanning from the MinimWatch tray icon.

True, however the color of the tray icon changes from green to yellow when rescan is in progress and then again to green when done. I am used to this but if not possible under my setup so be it. |
