Goodbye, and help needed
This is to say goodbye to MinimServer and the fine community around it.

I was an early adopter of MinimServer, which I did and do admire. I changed to Roon about five years ago to get a uniform interface whether I was connecting via USB or LAN and for its Qobuz integration.

I no longer want to keep redundant systems running, and I am ready to uninstall MinimServer. However, I can't deactivate my license. MinimServer won't run since a recent update; and there are references to the MinimServer Shared directory on a Synology NAS, but I can't find that directory nor can I find minimserver.cfg.

So what I'm asking is that my license be deactivated so that I can uninstall the program. I've enjoyed using MinimServer and in particular, the ability to catalog my music in any way I wanted. Perhaps some day, I'll be back. Until then, my appreciation to Simon!

RE: Goodbye, and help needed
Thanks very much for your kind words. "Hello" posts to the forum are not uncommon but "Goodbye" posts are very few and far between.

The problem in update 260 that caused MinimServer to break for many users was most unfortunate. My apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you and many other users.

To find the MinimServer shared folder, open File Station in Synology DSM. In the left sidebar you will see a list of shared folders and this list should include a folder named MinimServer. Click on the MinimServer folder and double-click on appData in the window that opens. In the list of files you will see a file named minimserver.config (not cfg). Delete this file and do not delete any other files.

Now open Package Center and uninstall MinimServer. When you are asked whether you want to save the MinimServer configuration or remove MinimServer completely, chose to remove MinimServer completely. The should uninstall MinimServer, delete all files created by MinimServer and remove the MinimServer folder from the list of shared folders.

I understand why you have chosen to move from MinimServer to Roon. MinimServer is a UPnP server for a local library and I don't have any plans to change this to integrate streaming music sources such as Qobuz. The audio world has changed a lot since I created MinimServer in 2012 and this will mean that some people move to other solutions that include support for online streaming. I wish you all the best as you continue your musical journey.

Yes, MinimServer is a server, not a control point. On an Android tablet or phone, for example, the control point app BubbleUPnP is a fine interface to the content served up by Minimserver AND to Internet radio streams via a local file of .m3u URLs. The tablet can also have the app for a closed Internet server like Qobuz. That's convenient enough for me.

So it is more pessimistic than necessary when Simon more or less directs people to "move to other solutions that include support for online streaming."

RE: Goodbye, and help needed
Thanks very much for this. I didn't intend to imply that all users of MinimServer will move to other solutions and I have edited my previous post to clarify this (changed "will inevitably mean that people move" to "will mean that some people move").

The combination of BubbleUPnP (or similar control app) with MinimServer for a local library and Qobuz (etc.) for online streaming works well and many people will find this a good solution. There will also be some people (such as the OP) who prefer a single unified solution such as Roon that incorporates both local files and streaming.

Funny, I have tested Roon multiple times, as I am curious.

It is to my eyes one of the worst solution to play music. It is a closed system, the founder is arrogant (I had a very interesting exchange with him; when I told him I wished to have the possibility to browse by folder, he replied that this was a very stupid idea), it basically grasps above 60% of a synology ressources, countrary to minimserver you can't play with the transcoding in a fine way (you can't use Shebyshev polynomial, to give an exemple). And yes, hugely expensive...

The only interest or Roon, I found, is to be able to surf on the artists / performers, etc. Which leads to spend more time reading and surfing than listening. I eventually found this weird. And now that minimserver can read booklet using Lumin app, I am happy enough.

But I recognize there are many people happy to pay over $500 for this...
