Casting full device lossless audio to UPnP
Hi Simon,

I am here based on Mark Levinson support recommendation.

I recently bought a UPnP Mark Levinson 5101 renderer from them while knowing nothing about UPnP. I used a Google Cast Wiim streamer before it.

I used to cast all my device audio to the Wiim streamer and enjoy all streaming apps, read aloud audio and everything using the original prefered reliable apps on my device. It was practical as casting is a single step, then everything goes flawless. I didn't know about the Google Cast resolution limitations back then.

I thought I could do the same but in full res using UPnP but I proved wrong. Although I now stream from Qobuz and Tidal in high res, I am confined to UPnP apps that limit my sources. I am unable to stream Apple Music into UPnP, or even text readaloud audio for example.

My research led me to the concept of "transcoding". I got the BubbleUPnP app and tried the casting feature but the 5101 returned an "incompatible format" error.

Cab MinimServer present a solution?

RE: Casting full device lossless audio to UPnP
MinimServer doesn't support casting. It can play files from a local device (computer or NAS) or network streams. For these sources, it supports transcoding to enable you to solve most format incompatibilities.

I suggest you investigate what is causing the "incompatible format" error when casting using BubbleUPnP. You might be able to resolve this by enabling BubbleUPnP transcoding.

RE: Casting full device lossless audio to UPnP
I'm not the Simon you're addressing but I do own a WiiM Pro so can add some context from that side.

Of the main services, Qobuz is currently limited to 24/96 through Google Cast until Qobuz Connect is released (which is currently in beta), and Apple Music - which I believe is only available on Android based streamers such as the Eversolo in a lossless format - is limited to lossy AAC, everything else is bit perfect.

I'm not sure what else you're casting but it's unlikely to be higher than 24/96, so Google Cast is the right protocol to use in those scenarios - unless you're using it to cast local music given it's not gapless - as app UPnP support is limited.

I've never looked into Apple Music - being an Android user - but personally I wouldn't want to use my phone to capture the audio and relay it to my speakers, but if you do want to progress this I'd ask the question on the BubbleUPnP Google Groups as I don't believe MinimServer can help here.

Read "How to stream Qobuz to almost anything" at
https://www.hifizine.com/2019/07/stream-...-anything/

It is a detailed how-to article about setting up Qobuz and BubbleUPnP.

Note that there are two BubbleUPnP programs. BubbleUPnP proper is an Android app that functions as a UPnP controller. BubbleUPnP Server might or might not be necessary in addition. The article discusses both programs.

Also, have you put Mark Levinson control into the search box on Google Play Store? Several choices come up.
