Smile Minimstreamer Upsampling not showing on DAC
Hi everyone,
This is my first newbypost. I have been using Minimserver for two weeks now. And wanted to give minimstreamer a go.

I’m using a Melco n1z2ex with a Topping dx9 dac - connected using USB. I listen to local flac files and Qobuz.
When setting the stream.transcode to flac:wav32;192 or flac:wav24;192 the music comes through, but the dac still states: 44.1khz.
The settings are accepted by minimstreamer (when saving) and I have restarted the DAC. To no avail.

Any ideas what’s (not) going on?
Thnx!

RE: Minimstreamer Upsampling not showing on DAC
Just refresh your control point app.
If you’re playing tracks that you put in the play queue before the new transcode settings the app will “remember” previous settings

Thnx. I'm using the jplay control app. Rebuilding the jplay index worked like a charm. Now I get a 192khz reading. But unfortunately some playback glitches as well. I will play around a bit and see what works. Thnx again.

The Melco has a low-powered processor that has problems transcoding to high resolutions. You will need to reduce the resolution until you get uninterrupted sound.

Hi Simon, that is very useful info. Thnx! Do you perhaps have an idea what would be an ideal upsampling setting for the Melco?

RE: Minimstreamer Upsampling not showing on DAC
The transcoding setting flac:wav24;192 is working on my Melco. I tried flac:wav32;192 and this also seems OK (but my DAC is only able to handle 24 bits).

My setup is different from yours. I am using a Melco N1A for serving the files and transcoding. My renderer is a Melco N1Z with a USB-attached DAC. If you are using your N1Z/2 EX for serving, transcoding and rendering, you will need to transcode to a lower resolution because of the increased system load caused by rendering.

Thnx. After fiddling about, I decided to uninstall the minimstreamer for now. I will take it up again, when I got more time on my hands. Thnx again for your help. ?

I’m curious about your setup. Does having two melco’s instead of just one improve sound quality considerably?

Yes, it does. I am also using a Melco S100 switch and an optical link to connect the two Melcos, which improves things even more.

Interesting. Gives me something to think about & dive deeper into. Did you also consider other combinations (like using Auralic or Lumin as renderer). Or is there perhaps some magic in using 2 Melco’s? How did you go about using an optical link between the two Melco’s - as I can not see an optical connector on my n1z?
