Question Raspberry Pi info and radio logo
Hi all,
First of all I have to say that I’m really happy I have found a solution to listen my favourite italian radio on my old radio Numan Two.

The radio was not compatible with the streaming protocol that changed few years ago. And it’s a pity because I like the sound compared to modern radio.
Here is my radio model: https://www.auna-multimedia.co.uk/NUMAN-...-oxid.html

I bumped few days ago while searching on the internet in an article that was explaining the possibility of using minimserver and minimstreamer to convert on the fly the stream and be able to receive the stream on devices not compatible with the new protocols. To test it I have installed minimserver and minimstreamer on a windows laptop. Everything worked as expected. Great!!

My plan is now to install it on a Raspberry Pi.

The first point that I could not find in the official documentation is the minimum configuration for running it on a Raspberry Pi. Which Raspberry Pi model is the minimum to work properly? And what about RAM and microSD card specs?

Now, coming to specific questions on minimstreamer, I could not find a way to show a logo of my radio despite I have saved in the same folder a jpg image with the same name as in my M3U file.

Here is the contentof my m3u file, called “Radio Deejay.m3u”:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,[R1] Radio Deejay
https://streamcdnf31-4c4b867c89244861ac2...er_ma.m3u8

The logo is saved in a file called “Radio Deejay.jpg”, 25kb, size 474x474 pixel in the same folder.

Is there any way to check if the logo is working using another program on a computer? I would like to exclude a problem of my radio in this way.

Also, some radio are displaying a text with a description of the radio or a song that is being played. Any chance to show some text with ministreamer? Can it maybe something we can handle with ffmpeg parameters?

Regards,
Bluewolf

RE: Raspberry Pi info and radio logo
Hi again,

I think the reason why the original metadata in the stream are removed is described in this paragraph of minimstreamer user guide:

If the network stream uses the icecast protocol for embedding metadata (such as track title and artist information for the currently playing song), MinimStreamer removes this metadata and sends the audio data to the music player. This makes the stream playable on music players that don't support the icecast protocol.

I was wondering if the removal of embedded metadata can be avoided with configuration in case the music player supports the icecast protocol.

Any idea?

RE: Raspberry Pi info and radio logo
I am pleased you are finding MinimServer and MinimStreamer useful.

MinimServer runs on all models of Raspberry Pi. It performs best on a Pi 3 or later.

Your settings for showing a logo look correct. You can confirm this by using a UPnP control point that shows artwork images, for example BubbleUPnP.

There is no configuration option to retain Icecast metadata when playing a radio stream through MinimStreamer. The stream you are playing does not use Icecast for its metadata (it uses HLS), so an option to do that would not help.

Hi Simon,
Thanks a lot for your answer. I’ll make a first test on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ but the final installation will be on a Raspberry Pi 4 which I’m waiting to be delivered.

Regarding the logo, thanks for the explanation. Since my radio is displaying logo and description of other radio not using HLS I was wondering if there was a way to send the logo and a static description in the stream. But it’s not really relevant, it was just a wish.
What is good for me is to be able to listen my favourite radio station on my radio without buying a new one.

RE: Raspberry Pi info and radio logo
It sounds like your radio has some other way of finding and displaying radio station logos and is not using the artwork image sent by MinimServer to UPnP control points.
