RE: Stopped working since update
Thanks very much for this. It makes sense that this could be a Java problem. I am using Java 21 for all my testing on Mac.
You should be able to find out what version of Java you were previously using by running this command from a Terminal window: /usr/libexec/java_home -V This should list all installed versions of Java with the version currently in use shown first. If you didn't uninstall your previous version of Java, it will appear in this list. This information will be very useful for other users with the same problem. |

I was running Java 1.8 and the Java updater on my Mac would not update this (as per my PM). I installed Java 1.8.0_431 directly from Oracle (2.1 doesn't seem to be available for my Mac) and MinimWatch seems now to be running without problem. Thank you. |

RE: Stopped working since update
Thanks for letting me know that it is working now.
The recommended version is Java 21 (not 2.1) and it should run on your Mac. For details of how to download and install it, see this page. If you have any more problems, you should install this version. |

I don't pretend to understand how this correlates to Java 21. I'm just happy that things are working again! |

RE: Stopped working since update
Java 8 (the same as 1.8) is a very old version of Java, first released in 2014 and patched with updates since then. Java 21 is a much more recent version of Java (released in 2023) and has a number of improvements over Java 8. For example, with Java 21 the MinimServer and MinimWatch menu bar icons support transparency and adjust for light and dark desktop colour schemes.

RE: Stopped working since update
I can confirm that it has to do with Java. Although my old mac mini with Mojave, already had minimserver 2.2 installed and was properly working, I had the exact same problem after the latest update. I read this topic and checked my Java version.
Indeed, I had previously java 8 installed and I upgraded to Java 21. It solved the problem and my mac now has the latest version of minimserver running fine! It returned a smile on my face after being a little bit in panick! Fwiw, in order to try to solve the problem, I installed Kazoo server as well and it did nothing at all. Maybe also due to an incompatible version of Java too. I don't know. Thanks Simon, btw, all those years I was very very happy with your server ! It is the best. Kind regards. |
