Identification of Box Sets
Hi,

I have many box sets and I have found a quick way to identify them in JRiver using the custom Box Set tag. I have also carried this tag into mp3 tag.

Is there any way I can add the Box Set tag to minimserver 2? If so, how do I do this?

RE: Identification of Box Sets
If you have a MinimServer full license, you can add Box Set to the list of tag names in the indexTags property, then restart MinimServer. You will see a new top-level index named Box Set containing all your box sets. After selecting a box set, you can select "n albums" to see the albums in the box set.

Hi Simon,

I tried your suggestion and it works well.
I am using jplay ios as the control point. It allows a folder view which shows the Box Sets as you describe above. However, when I try to add the entire box set to the queue, I have to add one disc at a time. There does not seem to be a way to right click on the box set to add all the tracks in the album. I am able to do this when i just search for an album and find a box set. This seems particular to the folder view.

Is this more related to the control point or is this a limitation of minimserver folder view?

RE: Identification of Box Sets
I might have misunderstood what you mean by box set. Your description of how you use this sounds more like a multidisc album (in MinimServer terms). Please provide a specific example of a box set you are trying to play.

For example, Deutsche Grammophon has a box set (I believe 56 separate discs) of recordings by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. When I do an album search, I can find this disc, and it contains a folder with a name of the recordings and 56 individual discs, each with their own art work (disc 1, disc 2, etc.). When I play this album (found by album search), I can right click on the cover and add all 600+ tracks to the queue of jplay ios. However, when I search by folder and locate the folder Box Set, I can find all my box sets. However, when I click on the folder, it reveals all the albums -- each album is individual as well as a separate listing for all the tracks. There does not seems to be an ability to click on the Boston Symphony Orchestra main folder and add all the contents to the queue. I have to add each of the 56 albums individually. I would like to be able to add the entire folder to the queue, like I am able to do when I search by album.

Hope this is clearer.

RE: Identification of Box Sets
Unfortunately the terms "folder" and "folder view" have become overloaded with different meanings:

1) MinimServer provides a folder view that shows folders exactly as they appear in the file system of your music library. This is shown as [folder view] in the MinimServer browsing index.

2) Some control points provide a "folder view" that shows the complete MinimServer "tag view" browsing index, not just file system folders. In JPLAY, this is available as "By Folder" under "Local Network."

If you are using MinimServer folder view (option 1 above), some control points (for example BubbleUPnP) provide the ability to select the complete contents of a file system folder and all its subfolders. For your box set, this would be all 600+ tracks. At present I am not able to confirm whether JPLAY can do this.

If you are using JPLAY "By Folder" (option 2 above), you should be able to select by artist or album in the MinimServer browsing index and add the complete album with all its discs to the playing queue.

Please confirm which of these versions of folder view is not giving you the ability to add all 600+ tracks.

Hi Simon,

I am using option 2. I figured out how to add the whole album (using the 3 dots in the upper right corner) so everything seems OK so far.

Thanks.

Using the indexArtwork feature it's possible to display the box set artwork, rather than inherit it from the underlying tracks.

The only problem is where I have a number of "The Classic Albums Collection" box sets.
