CD Singles

Hi -

Long time (basic) user, but never posted...

How do people manage CD singles? I'd like to somehow incorporate them as they often come with interesting 'b' sides, but don't want them appearing as full on albums.

I saw some discussion around ALBUMSET which looked promising but not sure it ever came to fruition? I think what I'd like to have is something like a Singles section under an artist that shows up like an album, and if you then go into Singles, you can see each single (with its own artwork) like an album there. Is such a setup possible currently?

Then you could manage a custom tag (ie AlbumType) where you set metadata to Single (or Complete).
You should add AlbumType to indexTag.

Excuse my lack of knowledge, but I'm not sure how that helps me?

Are you saying if I use that tag everywhere, that I can browse by type complete or single from the top level of items presented by Minimserver?

Yes, exactly … note that you need the Minimserver full license in order to manage more tags

To see a Singles section under an artist name, do the following:

1) In each file that is a single, add a tag Singles and set this to the value 1
2) In the indexTags list, add Singles=1

With these settings, selecting an artist who has a mixture of singles and complete albums will show a new index entry Singles. Selecting this index entry will show all the singles for that artist.

OK, I think I've got that, I can now see a Singles section under the artist... is there anyway to stop the single showing under Albums?

Are your singles tagged with an Album tag? If so, it isn't possible to stop them showing under Albums. Could you remove the Album tag from your singles or would this cause any problems?

So the ALBUM tag has the single title... I presume if I remove that, each track on the CD single will show as just an individual track? In which case I guess the question would be how to group tracks for a single!! It's a shame there isn't a SINGLE tag that behaves like ALBUM...

You have two options:

In both cases you just need to create a custom tag … Single

You could try using the Group tag to group these tracks (with no Album tag).
