MinimWatch on MX Linux
Hi,
I am running MinimServer on Qnap (Docker)-works fine!. The PC ist on current MX LInux. I can not get MinimWatch to run, except I turn off the firewall (ufw) completly. Is there a way to configure ufw so that MinimWatch can be used?

Thanks
p.s. I am completly new to Linux!

RE: MinimWatch on MX Linux
MinimServer uses port 9791 for communications from MinimWatch. MinimWatch also creates local port numbers dynamically for inbound communications from MinimServer.

As a start, you could try opening port 9791 in the firewall for outbound connections. If this doesn't solve the problem, it is likely to be caused by inbound connections being blocked by the firewall.

Are you able to configure the firewall to allow inbound connections to the MinimWatch process on all port numbers? This is how it works when running MinimWatch on Windows.

I forgot to tell that the Web-Interface on 9790 is working all the time. And when switching off the firewall, and starting MinimWatch and switching the firewall on again (afterwards), MinimWatch also seems to be working fine (?).

Yes I can configure the firewall (also with certain 'rules'). But I can not figure out how to include MinimWatch processes in such a rule...

Opening 9791 only, unfortunatly has no effect.

RE: MinimWatch on MX Linux
When MinimWatch starts, it listens on a local port for an inbound connection from MinimServer. This is required by the UPnP protocol. The listening port number is chosen at random. By disabling the firewall while MinimWatch is starting, you are allowing this inbound connection to complete successfully.

The inbound connection is renewed periodically (usually about every 20 to 30 minutes), so I think MinimWatch would stop working after this time if you leave the firewall active.

RE: MinimWatch on MX Linux
I found a discussion where they dealed with the same issue and found a solution:
https://forums.opensuse.org/t/how-do-i-f.../144757/58

This solution is beyond my capabilities, so I will stay with the manual control via the web-interface.
Thanks for your help and have a nice december.

RE: MinimWatch on MX Linux
Thanks for posting this. It does look very complex.

You can do most things using the web interface. If necessary, you could disable the firewall for a short time if you need to do something that requires MinimWatch.
