The Melco EX comes with a preinstalled version of MinimServer that is the same as Starter Edition with the added benefit of three preinstalled profiles with browsing settings for Classical, Rock/Pop and Jazz music. if you activate your MinimServer full license on the Melco, it will have the same functionality as MinimServer on a QNAP as well as these three profiles.

I have a QNAP and a Melco set up for use as servers. Streaming music from the Melco to my player (actually another Melco with USB-attached DAC) sounds much better than streaming the same music from the QNAP to the player.

You can connect the player to the Melco via the Melco dedicated Ethernet player port. For even better sound quaility, you can connect them with a Melco S100 switch and disable the player port.

This is not a commercial for Melco, just sharing my personal experience. Smile

Simon, sorry if this a stupid question - but I got interested in you saying the Melco saounds better than a QNAP.

Is it possible, with any of the Melcos, to send it trough UPNP to an Eversolo streamer/digital transport, using Bubble UPNP as the app? I don't need the USB out function of the Melco, I would want to use it trough UPNP, as I use my QNAP these days.

Also, can the Melco transcode flac to wav32?

Many thanks!

Yes to both of these (for all Melco models). Smile

RE: Minimserver and Melco
Ah, Melco...

What do you do when you have 9T of music ? Makes Melco useless.

I stick to my synology, with four Samsung 8T SSD. Very happy so far, way cheaper. And instead of a Melco switch, I bought the Buffalo BS-GS2008 which is exactly the same technology as Melco, but at roughly 10% of the price. Plus a audiophonics LPSU200 for both switch and synology, to insure a stable power.

I always look at optimizing the money. I am not sure putting money in Melco is really that rewarding. Putting money in the renderer, yes (I have the last version of Klimax, with the new power supply, that was a Huge improvment), but from Synology with stable PS and SSD to Melco, I don't think I'll have a jump in quality worth thousands of Euro.

Just my 2 cents. But anyway, again, don't have a big library; Melco is too small.
