Installing on QNAP NAS with Container Station 3
I am trying to install a second instance of MinimServer on a QNAP NAS by using a Docker container. However, the instructions for doing so don't correspond to what I am seeing. I've tried to make intelligent (??) guesses but without success. Presumably the problem is due to a new version of Container Station (version 3.0) having been released rearlier this year. No doubt everything that needs to be done can be done, it's just a matter of doing it differently. Is there any chance of an update to the instructions? Please??

RE: Installing on QNAP NAS with Container Station 3
Thanks for letting me know about this problem. I am currently running Container Station 2.6.3 on my QNAP NAS and the user guide instructions were written for this version. I see that an update to version 3.0.5 is available, so I will install this update and create a new set of instructions that match this version.

Thanks for the remarkably quick response, very impressive. What I didn't say is that I'm evaluating MinimServer prior to deciding whether to go for a full licence. I think you've just got yourself a new customer!

RE: Installing on QNAP NAS with Container Station 3
The new instructions for Container Station 3.x are there now. Please let me know if anything isn't explained clearly.
The new user interface is a big step backwards in my opinion, much less easier to use than how this worked in Container Station 2.x. |

RE: Installing on QNAP NAS with Container Station 3
Thanks for updating the new instructions so quickly. I followed them this morning and now have a containerised MinimServer up and running.
Just one question. Step 10 of your instructions maps an 'inside container' music library to the 'outside container' music library. Is it possible to change the mapping if, for example, I want to try out a different library with the containerised instance of MinimServer? Thanks once again for your incredibly rapid response. RE: Installing on QNAP NAS with Container Station 3
Thanks for confirming that the process is working and the instructions are sufficiently clear.
To use a different music library folder with the containerised MinimServer, you should create a new 'outside container' folder for the other library. You then have two choices: 1) Create a new MinimServer container that maps your new 'outside container' folder to '/Music' inside this container and use this container to test the new library. 2) Create a new MinimServer container that maps multiple 'outside container' music folders to 'inside container' music folders. The container instance of MinimServer sets a default value of '/Music' in the MinimServer contentDir property but you can use any names for the 'inside container' music folders (for example, '/Music1' and '/Music2') and use the contentDir property for the container instance of MinimServer to select and switch between these music folders. After changing the contentDir property, you need to rescan or restart the container instance of MinimServer. For both the above approaches, don't change the way the /MinimServer folder is mapped in the container. |

RE: Installing on QNAP NAS with Container Station 3
Thanks again. All this containerology is new to me - it probably shows!
Just out of curiosity, from the point of view of a full licence does running one instance of MinimServer outside a container and another inside a container on the same NAS count as 2 installations out of the allowable 3? Steve |

RE: Installing on QNAP NAS with Container Station 3
All containers runnng on a QNAP or Synology NAS are covered by the single license activation for the non-containerised MinimServer instance installed on the same NAS, as explained in point 8 of this section, point 24 of this section and point 31 of this section.
I will update the page to state this "up front" as this important information is somewhat buried at present. |
