Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
Recently, I got a Synology DS223j (running DSM 7.2-64570 Update 3) and was happy to find MinimServer as one of the third party packages in the package manager. I installed it, set up the path to my music collection (currently MinimServer 2.2 update 242 is running), and everything worked fine so far.
However, the default language in the UPNP player app of my streaming receiver shows up in English, while my NAS is set up to use the German language. I looked around in the help files a bit and found the note about overriding the default language in the "serverOptions" property. Since this can only be used with a trial or paid license, I used the former one, put "language=de" into the properties box, and now the UI showed up in German in the UPNP player app. The help files also said that MinimServer would pick up the language of the system where it's installed and set the language accordingly, but apparently, this doesn't work on my Synology NAS. When I had MinimServer installed on my Windows 10 PC with German UI settings, everything showed up in German in the UPNP player app. Now I was trying to be smart and tried to rename the "ServerBundle_de.defaults" in the /MinimServer/etc folder into "ServerBundle_en.defaults", but that didn't help either to get German UI texts. Do you have any idea what to do about this issue? Or maybe I missed somethings in the settings? |

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
Is your Display language setting on the NAS set to System Setting (Systemeinstellung) or to Deutsch? If you set this to Deutsch and then stop and restart MinimServer from Package Center, you will see the browsing menus in German. I have checked this and it is working for me.

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
Everything in the Synology DSM configuration was already displayed in German, but the language setting was set to "Browser Standardeinstellung" ("Browser default"). I switched it to "Deutsch" and restarted MinimServer in the Package center as suggested, and now the UI in the UPNP player app shows up in German alright. Thanks for the hint, I didn't expect that I had to specify the language settings because DSM looked fine already.

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
I understand that this is surprising for many users.
The Synology DSM user interface runs in a web browser on whatever client device you are using to run your web browser. By default it uses the language setting of the web browser on this client device. MinimServer runs on the NAS and doesn't have access to web browser language settings. When you select 'Deutsch' in the DSM user interface, you are configuring this language setting on the NAS itself. MinimServer reads the NAS configuration for language on startup and uses this to select a language translations file. |

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
Recently, I was looking a little deeper into the Synology configuration, since it seems to have some troubles with the power settings. Usually, I only need the NAS at a certain amount of time every day (when I'm at home and awake), so I tried enabling the hard disk hibernation after 20 minutes of being idle in order to save some energy. Apparently, there are some processes that wake up the hard disks now and then, though, hence they were spinning up countless times per day, which probably produces unnecessary wear.
Therefore, I changed the settings and disabled the hard disk hibernation, and instead used a power schedule plan for shutting down the NAS at certain times, and boot up again at another time. Now when I went back to MinimServer in my UPNP player up, after shutting down and booting the NAS again, the UI was back to English. Only stopping the MinimServer process and starting it again "fixed", so it showed up in German again. I know that a NAS is meant to run 24/7 (and my hard drives would support that), but maybe there is a small bug in MimimServer (or DSM?) that is triggered after a scheduled shutdown and reboot, so it would switch back to the default language (English?). |

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
Thanks for letting me know about this. This is caused by a problem with how MinimServer reads the language setting from the Synology configuration. Also, the instructions I gave in post #2 for setting the language are not sufficient to enable MinimServer to read the system language setting in all cases.
To set the language in a way that can can always be read by MinimServer, the user needs to configure the DSM language setting in two places: 1) In Systemsteuerung > Regionale Optionen > Sprache (Control Panel > Regional Options > Language), the Anzeigesprache (Display Language) setting must be Deutsch. 2) The Persönlich > Anzeigesprache (Personal > Display language) setting must be either Systemeinstellung (System language) or Deutsch. In additional to these settings, a MinimServer update is needed. I will post back here when this update is available. With the settings above and the MinimServer update, this should work correctly in all cases, including when a power schedule is set. |

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
Thanks for investigating this issue! I've set the language to "German" at both places as suggested and will wait until there's an update available. While having an English UI is not that much of a problem for me, it might be for some other people (older family members etc.), so I'm glad that I could help to fix a potential problem.

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
MinimServer update 245 has been released with a fix for this issue. You should now see the German user interface when the NAS restarts after a power-saving sleep.

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
I saw your posting yesterday and was too curious to wait until my NAS would power up itself, but after switching it on manually, the MinimServer UI showed up in German alright. Today, I was waiting for the automatic power schedule to boot the machine, and I can confirm that the bug seems to be fixed now. Thanks for the mighty fast update, this is much appreciated. Keep up the great work!

RE: Problem with MinimServer language setting on Synology NAS
Thank you for your help with finding and fixing this problem. Without this, I would not have known that MinimServer was not reading the language setting correctly in all cases.
