MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
Hello,
I am a new user in this forum and I already start with a problem ;-) I bought today a MinimServer 2.2 server license and installed the software on my QNAP HS-453DX-8G NAS System. The installation showed no issues, but when I start the MinimServer (http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XX:9790) I receive the following error message: Safari cannot open the webpage ..... QuLog Center shows: 2023/08/13 15:25:34 System MinimServer error: could not create shared folder This look like a "access right problem", but I have no clou what to do with it. Can someone point me into the right direction? Kind Regards Tom |

RE: MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
When you installed MinimServer, were you logged in as an administrator or a regular user? MinimServer creates a shared folder for configuration information and this requires administrative privilege.

RE: MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
I used the admin user with ALL rights on the NAS, I have RW on each volume/directory. Any other idea what could go wrong?

RE: MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
This could be related to the volume you have chosen to install the MinimServer app. If you open App Center and select Volume Info at the top of the App Center window, which volume has been selected for the MinimServer app?

RE: MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
The app is installed on the "standard" DataVol1 volume. It is a static volume where I have still 4TB free space. For test purposes I migrated the app to a M2-SSD volume, but I received the same error message. "Shared folder ..." I have no clou what is going wrong. I have installed many apps and never received any error concerning rights etc.

RE: MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
It is possible that the options MinimServer uses when creating the shared folder might not be compatible with your system configuration. These options are:
add everyone group into read/write list add guest user into write list If you don't have an everyone group and/or a guest user, it is possible that the shared folder creation might fail. I suggest you try creating the shared folder manually using the Shared Folders page in QTS Control Panel. The shared folder must be named MinimServer and the recommended location is the volume used for the MinimServer app. If you are able to create the shared folder successfully in this way, MinimServer should find it and use it for its configuration. Please let me know what happens. |

RE: MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
That did the trick!
I created the folder manually and create the appropriate access rights. Once I did this everything worked fine. I still do not understand why it not worked in the first place, but anyway. Does it has an effect to put MinimServer on the SSD VOL instead of the HDD Volume, or does it not make a difference ? |

RE: MinimServer error: could not create shared folder
MinimServer creates the shared folder on the same volume as the app installation but it should not matter if it is on a different volume. My own installation uses a different volume (because I moved the app location) and it is working fine.
