Problems with character accents on M2, MacOS, DCS Mosaic - can't find files
Hello,
First of all a huge thank you for the amazing server, it has provided me with countless hours of enjoyment! The problem is that if I try to click on a song that contains Greek characters with accents, or is saved in a folder that has accents on its name, then I get an error message on my iPad app that no playitem found, and an error on the minim log: "unknown folder for search resource URI". Just to clarify, the problem has to do with the name of the files and not with the tags. If a song does not contain accents in its name and has tags with accents, it plays fine. I have added an example here with an mp3 file containing accents on its file name and parent folders, and one not containing accents to demonstrate the problem. Everything worked flawlessly on my old Intel Mac until I got a new M2 MacMini a few days ago. I installed the JDK20 as per instructions. Also in the minim log file at the beginning, it states that: ----- Java runtime options: -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 Platform default charset is UTF-8 System platform is macos-arm ----- I am using MimimServer 2.2 update 240, macOS Ventura 13.3, JDK20, dCS Mosaic 1.4.1 (146) and dCS Network Bridge 1.4.1 (510). I can mitigate the problem, by turning all the file/folder name characters into capitals and removing the accents. I have already created a script to easily do that. I would prefer though not to take such drastic action on my files if there is an easier solution that would not affect my library. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much! RE: Problems with character accents on M2 MacOS - can't find files
I will try this myself to see what happens. Is the problem specific to Greek characters? For example, if a filename contains a French "e acute accent" character and no other accented characters, does this work or not?

I haven't tested it with any other language than Greek I am afraid. I will do some investigation tonight in other languages and update you here. Again a big thank you for the amazing support!! |

RE: Problems with character accents on M2 MacOS - can't find files
Just an update,
I start feeling that this has to do with the DCS Mosaic app, I tried it with VLC, MusicLife and foobar2000 for iOS and it works fine with them. I edited the title of the thread to reflect that. I will wait for an update on the situation from your side too Simon. Any suggestion regarding Java configuration, etc. would be appreciated. |

I will have some time to look at this in detail later today. I have some idea about what might be causing the problem. I will post back here when I have more information.

RE: Problems with character accents on M2, MacOS, DCS Mosaic - can't find files
This problem is caused by a bug in MinimServer that only shows up when dCS Mosaic is used as the control point. Thanks very much for the test files and log that you provided. They were useful for finding the cause of the problem.
I will send you a PM with details of a test build of MinimServer with a fix for you to try. |

RE: Problems with character accents on M2, MacOS, DCS Mosaic - can't find files
Thanks for confirming that the fix is working. Thanks also for letting me know about this problem and for providing the information I needed to identify the cause of the problem. This problem would affect all filenames and directory names containing accented characters (not just accented Greek characters) when MinimServer is running on a recent version of macOS and dCS Mosaic is the control point. The fix will be included in the next MinimServer update.
