Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist

RE: Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist
I don't know about MusicCast but it "fixes" the current problem with the WiiM control point - although I do expect them to properly address it at some point.

RE: Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist
Hi Simon,
I have just updated to 2.2 update 242 and can confirm my issue with Track/Album Artist has been resolved.
Thank you.

RE: Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist
Hi,

Would it possible to turn this new feature of update 241 off again?

Let me explain what I’m after: Just like Hayden I’m using a Yamaha Receiver and MusicCast as a control point. The MusicCast app shows 2 lines with tag info of the track that is currently being played; the 1st line is the track’s Title, and on the 2nd line it displays Artist – AlbumTitle (before update 241 this used to be AlbumArtist - AlbumTitle).

By default if you go through the items list it only shows you the track’s title. I’m having quite a few compilation albums and also tracks with the same title but of different artists. To make it clearer which songs I’m looking at when browsing, I’ve changed my tag format to Title.displayFormat={$title$artist^^^ - }, so it displays “Title – Artist”.

With the artist already mentioned in the 1st line of what’s now playing. I would rather it showed me the AlbumArtist in the 2nd line again, (or even better just the Album Title). Would this be possible?

RE: Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist
I think the current implementation is correct. When playing a track, the control point should show the track artist in preference to the album artist if these are not the same. This is why the change in update 241 was made.

You can use tag formatting to show the album artist instead of the track artist in all places where control point shows a track artist. To do this, add the following to tagFormat:

Artist.displayFormat={$albumartist}

Alternatively, you can remove artist names from all tracks with this setting:

Artist.displayFormat={}

RE: Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist
I do this in a different manner.
For me as user I am not interested to separate Album Artist and Artist.
I removed every Album Artist in my music files.
I added more than one Artist and split the Artist tag with the help of MP3 Tag.
In my properties I remove the Artist tag to be shown and every Artist is shown in the navigation.
Code:
Artist, Genre, Date, Decade,  Country, Composer,  Publisher,Label,  Organization, ...

RE: Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist
Thanks for the response. I realise this is caused more by how MusicCast works, then something MinimServer does. But because of the bug in MusicCast it kind of worked for me prior the 241 update.

Organising your music is quite personal, and everyone will have a different approach. I do like the difference between Album Artist and Artist. When I have an album of B.B. King, the Album Artist will list B.B. King. But on tracks where he's doing a duet with e.g. Gary Moore the Artist field will list them both. That way I can find all albums of B.B.King but also all tracks where Gary Moore is playing even though it is not on one of his own albums.

It is not a big problem; the important thing is that I can find the music I want to play. It is just when it plays the control point lists the Artist twice for me, which just looks weird :-)

Have you tried my suggestions in post #14?

No not yet, as that will, as you mentioned, show the album artist instead of the track artist in all places where the control point shows a track artist. So, also in the browse lists. Making the Album Artists and All Artists lists the same. There are occasions where the album artist will be different from the track artist(s).

The settings that I suggested will not change what appears in browse lists. They will only affect what you see when viewing a track in the control point. I think this is what you have asked for.

RE: Display Track Artist instead of Album Artist
Hi Simon,

I've tried your suggestion of #14 and it worked, thank you so much...

I’m just a little bit confused why. This is not what my experience is with the displayFormat option, and what you yourself explained in a reply of another thread (tid=7293);

“The Now Playing display is produced by the control point using the same metadata for albums, discs and tracks that is shown by the control point when browsing the library. This means that changes to displayFormat settings will affect what you see in browsing as well as what you see in Now Playing.”

Why does this displayFormat setting not affect the output of the browse lists? Don’t get me wrong I’m happy it doesn’t, I just don’t really understand why this one didn’t, and my change to the displayFormat of the track’s Title did… Smile
