I am still using Wayland. I know there were some updates, but I dont know what they were.

I figured out how to make the icon appear.

In Gnome Extensions Manager there is a disabled Extension called "AppIndicator and KStatusNotification Support". Enabling that will put the missing icon in the menu bar, along with any others that are missing.

Thanks for this. I will install Fedora 40 and try it. Does GNOME Shell on Fedora 40 use Wayland by default or does a configuration setting need to be changed?

I changed nothing and am on Wayland. It must be by default.

edit: However, another restart and now it does not want to show up. This is frustrating. I will see what I can figure out and report back.

To give an update, Minimserver is working on Fedora 41 / Gnome 47, but again the icon does not show up in the top bar.

I have installed Fedora 41 Workstation to test this but I am unable to install any GNOME shell exensions. The error message is Error 503 All backends failed or unhealthy. Is there a solution for this?

Fedora 41 has removed support for X11 and replaced it with Wayland. In theory it should be possible to install additional packages to provide this support but my attempts to do this have not succeeded in enabling MinimServer and MinimWatch to create tray icons.

As things stand, this appears to be the end of the road for MinimServer and MinimWatch tray icons in Fedora.

If anyone with knowledge of X11 development is reading this, please post here. There might be a simple change to get this working that I could implement if someone can provide some pointers.

I have found a solution for this on Fedora 41.

1) From a Terminal window, run this command: sudo dnf install gnome-extensions-app
2) From a Terminal window, run this command: gnome-extensions-app
3) Enable Extensions if not enabled
4) Under System Extensions, enable AppIndicator and KStatusNotifierItem Support
5) If MinimServer is running with no icon, stop it by running minimserver/bin/stopall
6) Start MinimServer from the desktop list of apps

The MinimServer tray icon should now appear in the menu bar.
